Impact loading calculations

I know from my experience that it is helpful while ascending to do a little thinning on the way up and create a path for these limbs to make it to the ground. I trim twice once on the way up and once on the way down. By the time I tie in I am half done or half empty. Are we getting off the topic at hand?
 
Returning to the topic matter, impact loading calculations, I found Don Blairs' rule of thumb to be correct. I think this is the rule of thumb Ken is using. What I haven't quite figured out about it, Dons' rule of free fall, is how he measures the overall distance of the falling piece. As I've already stated, I measure the overall distance with the pieces' center of gravity, or it's center of mass. Does anybody have any idea how Don applies his rule of thumb as he states it?
How about if some1 shares their interpretation of Dons' rule?

Hi folks kind of new on this site . I've been reading all your replies on rigging and calculation, very interesting .
One of the most important things that I've found over the years, is simply taking the time to set up properly. No short cuts! some of the ground men may be bored and wondering , what the heck your doing , but the end result is, just making it easier for me and them as well. sometimes clearing a third of the tree for removal to rig the other two thirds is is time consumming , but important to rig the rest in that location for the ground men .Instead of having to tag evrything or fighting all the way down. knowing the tree and its capabilities are very important. since I dont go much on caculation as far as weight loads, feel and experience are what I use mostly.having a good ropper is worth its weight in gold. he can make you look good or bad, no matter how great a climber you are. however,he's only as good a the climber who is instucting him , untill they know what each other wants and can think alike.I know this may not exactly relate to what you folks are talking about, but this is what I've experience in ten years of climbing.
