I am removing the SAKA from the market.

Since there seems to be interest, let's make sure it is open sourced.

Summary:
A system utilizing spring tension to pull a device along rope
This system is thought to be most useful for tending a knee ascender by pulling the ascender up the rope or by removing slack from the rope. The spring tension can be provided by a spring reel that recoils cordage onto the reel.

Looks like the better keybak is max 20oz of force.
This one has 2lbs:

Other models look cheap or much more expensive than $20

I just started testing it out today, but I have a knee ascender that does not require a bungee, and self ascends up the rope. There's not much to it, a very bare bones design that anyone could make. It rolls up. Pretty compact as well for storage. I have less than $30 in it, but already had the cordage that I used in the construction.

It could be possible that someone has come up with this configuration before; but in looking around online, i have not seen it.

If there's any interest in it, I will start another thread so as not to take over Richard's.

U know there is a system in place for this and whether u agree with it or not why don’t u just let it play out before u go ruining someone else’s business. Either his patent will get approved or not and what if it doesn’t?

Which system is it that protects a small business from a larger one that tries to out lawyer them?

Weaver has a patent, they should let the SAKA be sold and get a kick back.

If Richard gets his patent, he should allow the HAAS to be sold and get a kick back.

There really is no one getting ruined right now but Richard, and there is no "system" that stops that except for possibly public protest, like petitions.

Why not take a 14” coil spring stuff it down a tube, burry the tube in some half inch double braid cover. Stop off the bottom of the spring then on the top tie some 3-5mm cord (starter cord). Ditch the reel as I can’t see the snap back being strong enough. Any key chain reels or tool support reels might have the strength but not the speed to complete with elastic.

evo, maybe you are right but I thought 2lb sounds convincing. I thought it sounds like it will accelerate the ropegrab at several G's. Maybe not.

I’m not conserned about the weight it can move, but the speed in which it does.

The horse...it’s dead. You can stop whipping it now

Maybe... depends on which horse your whipping I suppose.

This was never about a knee ascender for me. All of us are a part of this arboriculture community, each of us gets to decide what kind of things we are, and are not OK with happening in it.

For me, when I look at history, and then down the road for arborist tools, I see the idea of rewarding innovation as a good direction, and blocking innovation as a bad direction. I also don't buy into the idea that you have to block new to reward old; when we can actually reward both.

So I speak up, you do the same, and your opinion is just as valid as mine. In the end the group will probably go a direction that you and I don't entirely agree with, but at least we both contributed.

I thought I had seen heavier duty tool rewind lanyards when I searched out and bought nice quality key back units for my topping wedges and hammer. A quick google search and I couldn't find anything beefy now. But, interestingly, some are rated for about 3.5 lb tools.

... For me, when I look at history,....
Take another look and then look around at what we have today. Do you see a lack of innovation?
I would suggest you take the time to understand the entirety of what it is you are trying to change.

Just so everyone knows, I don't condone or have I instigated or promoted a boycott.
I hope to just move on.
It occurs to me that, despite how strongly some of us feel about Weaver's heavy handedness and attempted monopoly of this design concept, we probably should respect Richard's wishes on this. It may be quite painful to him for us to keep focusing on this. Perhaps it is in all of our best interests, Richard's included, for us to let this go and to free him to move on from it and focus his genius on newer and equally exciting ideas.

Richard,
Why don't you do what the gun modification part makers do?
Sell parts for self assembly or in a kit.
Nothing stops you from selling webbing bolted to an ascender or attachable by end user.
Tubing, bungee, and foot loop sold separately.
This would limit your liability and running foul of any patent.

I own and climb on your SAKA and wouldn't want to be stuck without access to replacement parts.
I prefer the your design over the other.
