How many arbos have allergies?

My understanding is that allergies can come and go any time. There must be a reason, but we may never know the specific in our case.
Never been allergic to bee or wasp venom. No idea on poison ivy since we don't have it here.
But molds from shovelling out the sticky chunks when dumping the truck is another matter. It will make me feel like I have the flu in my body but not my head for 2 days. Paper mask solves the problem. Inhaling molds is probably a bad idea, but this may be separate from allergies.

Molds tend to kick my butt too Nora. Mostly from the heating/cooling system ducts. This has only happened since I moved south. Since we take advantage of open windows during the spring and fall when temps are favorable, the ducts have a period of time when no air moves through them. Then when you do kick on the heat or air, the fallout happens. Sometimes I can literally feel it hitting my sinuses. I have also been affected by moldy chips too. Felt like crap for 2-3 days.

Frax,

You're right...there are some really nasty molds that grow inside of the mobile compost pile in the back of the chip truck. Doing any shoveling with the best face mask possible and getting the wind to work in your favor is important.

One issue to be aware of is that any type of allergy meds can seriously compromise your body's ability to deal with Lyme.. even if you think the lyme is "cured", I would find other ways of dealing with allergies. Apparently these antihystamines can permanently damage the immune system..

As far as herbs go, I just take an "adrenal complex".. Any good manufacturer should be OK.. You can always muscle test to make sure..

I am 35, and have had allergies since I can remember to dust, pollen, and cat dander seems to be one of the worst. I do believe that exposing yourself to the allergens builds a tolerance, that is the whole premise behind allergy shots. My dust and pollen allergies are much less than they used to be, still can't pet a cat without my eyes itching.

This is my scenario too but I'm 56. Tree and grass pollen and cats. I wear a dust mask while working when the pollen is around and pretty much don't have any problem other than the little bit of asthma that remains. At this point all I'm going to say is eat your greens and you'll live to see another day.

I am 32 and have had allergies all of my life. I got the shots when I was a kid, probably til about age 11 or so. My mom says I had it really bad as a baby. These days I have reactions to some pet dander (some dogs yes, others no, all cats), some pollen, and dust, especially saw and chipper dust (and Poison Ivy). Fortunately these days I am not around the chipper/saw dust very much. I don't think I have ever been sick because of mold though, and I have worked with lots of composted and partially composted material (landscaping, farming, and tree work). My symptoms are mild to midland including itchy watery eyes, non-stop sneezing, runny nose and skin reactions. When I was doing tree work full time I had eyes full of gunk every night.

I recently heard a theory that allergies are more of a psycological reaction to a situation that is similar to one in the past that was perceived as bad (does that make sense?). This means, if you hate chipping brush, you might develop an allergy to it. I can't remember where I heard this. Maybe it's all in our heads?

Oh man when i lived in new mexico, the junipers killed me. Here i have a problem with siberian elms. Not so bad, lasts about a week or two. [/quote.

Where did you live in NM? I am from there and the junipers are brutal. I have just recently started to take adrenal support as well.

Have had bad allergies since I was a kid, went to the doctor/hospital etc. all to little avail and only to be at the effect of allergies. Doctor told me I would poss. grow out of them at 12 years of age. I thought, that makes no sense-if I am allergic to x why would it change?

Read a book, N.A.E.T., by doctor Numbudripod (also N.A.E.T.[Numbudripods Allergy Elimination Technique] website and her open letter of explanation of how it works). She uses the terms, more reactive, and less reactive not, “allergic”. In the book it gives the example of a woman answering the door with a glass of Orange Juice in her hand. After being told her husband just died out on the Interstate she dropped the glass of juice and went through all of the appropriate freak out. Next time she goes to drink Orange Juice she breaks out in hives and her throat swells. Only after she heard about N.A.E.T. and was “cleared” for Orange Juice was she able to drink it again.

I found a Chiropractor in my area who was a N A E T practicioner and was “cleared” for some basic items I was tested to be reactive to, as well as Oak tree pollen which was then making me feel sick when I would work Oak trees. Also cleared from lifelong reactivity to Poison Oak, Mold and some other long forgotten things. After staying away from Oaks for one day to allow the treatment to ‘set’, I was able to work them with zero ill effects. My parents used to fear for my life if I walked through Poison Oak (or got a Bee sting-thats one I forgot) now I work with Poison Oak when required and only have to deal with prevention of normal skin irritation, and when I get stung the pain of the sting annoys me and a little after swelling, but no racing to a hospital.

Now I have a say in the matter. I can go “allergic” to something by poor diet, strong negative association and perhaps other things I am not thinking of now ,but if I do I can do somtheing about it. I prefer this.

That is exactly the story I heard. I think it was on the radio. Thanks Merle!
