Hitler's Secret Archive

Hitler\'s Secret Archive

I found this to be very interesting, it was sent to me today.

This story was aired on Sunday, Dec. 17 (7PM ET/PT on CBS) on "60 MINUTES" about a long-secret German archive that houses a treasure trove of information on 17.5 million victims of the Holocaust. The archive, located in the German town of Bad Arolsen, is massive (there are 16 miles of shelving containing 50 million pages of documents) and until recently, was off-limits to the public. But after the German government agreed earlier this year to open the archives, CBS News' Scott Pelley traveled there with three Jewish survivors who were able to see their own Holocaust records. It's an incredibly moving piece.

Re: Hitler\'s Secret Archive

There are many who doubt the accuracy of the holocaust history. This is the most important lesson of the 20th century we must never forget the cruelty, Yes?

[ QUOTE ]
It pretty much says STFU to any knee-jerk rightwing fanatics who still doubt the Holocaust, up to and including Rush Limbaugh.

Sorry, but I must take exception to this statement.

Seems to me that the quote above is full of Hate towards a particular group of people. Not to mention that it makes an insinuation that is patently false.

What is truly disturbing though, is how inflamatory statments, like the one quoted above, were often used by the third Reich to turn public opinion against the "undesireables." We shouldn't forget that it was these undsireables that ended up going to Dachau, Bergen-Belsen and the other camps.

We should also not forget that it wasn't just Jews. It was also the Gypsies, Slavics, Poles, Gays, Catholics, Mentally Retarded, Children, Women, Old Men and old Women.

The Reich made good use of propaganda statements that offered plausible, but untrue accusations about the Jews and other undesireables. They made untrue claims about what the undesirables thought and believed in order to demonize them.

So, it stands to reason, before spouting off and making claims about someone else's beliefs or positions, even if it is someone whom the speaker dispises, then the speaker must know, for a fact, that what they are saying is true.

Unless of course the speaker's only desire is to destroy the people of whom they speak.

Just because you "heard" somewhere that "so and so" beleives this that and the other thing does't make it true. To repeat it without verification is wrong! It is spreading Hate and Rumors plain and simple.

If a person spreads a rumor and the statement turns out false, that makes the speaker liar. And liars cannot be trusted because you never know when they are lying simply because it is convenient.

If they are just spreading a rumor, then what purpose does it serve? Rumors serve only one purpose...to make the rumor monger look important. So rumor spreading is a selfish, self-centered, hateful thing. Because in order for the rumor monger to look good, someone else has to look bad.

Above all, we can at least agree that there is enough Hate Speach out there that non of us here needs to contribute more.

So, do some people deny the holocaust? Yes. But the only hard-core people I have ever heard deny the holocaust are the anti-semites. And quite frankly there are anti-semites across all political, social, economic and ethnic lines, including BOTH Wings.

Its ok man, Oakwilt often says things he doesnt really mean, he's the Edward Abbey of the 21st century, he has some great opinions and others which are downright silly. Maybe he was in one of his angry moments when he wrote the above quote..

Re: Hitler\'s Secret Archive

It would be crazy to go see your records and see those of friends and family that were killed or what not. Oh and kind of a funny side note on this but in school we had a girl who when asked about it thought it was some kind of Jewish holiday. Straight faced and dead serious the teacher thought she was just joking.
