Hitch Hiker

No, I know, Nick. I totally get that my picture is a misconfiguration. I'm just trying to explain how I think it could be improved in drt by being more like a hitch climber. That's why I said imagine that upper biner was in its own hole, in that exact location, separate from the dogbone slot though.

Sorry that I'm not being clear.

I have thought of this, however what you are proposing would interfere with the acesability of the hitch IMO. a better solution would be to have a big eye protruding from the aluminum spine. However I kinda decided it wasnt that important and dint follow up with it. At some point you have to stop playing with the design and recoup some money before you loose your ....

pc, I agree that the hole should be on the spine side. When I first looked at Adams pic it looked like it would make sense to be there but it seems like it would be more likely to torque the hh. After seeing the evolution of the RW, I look forward to the development of this product but I couldn't pass up having the first generation and I do not regret it. It works great!

This thing is definitely a hit. Sit back and try to pretend to relax for a while. ;)

I can certainly live without a drt eye. The interference with the hitch having them so close happens with the hitch climber too. A lot of people clip to the middle hole which is further out and that helps.

Back to your regularly scheduled SRT programming..

Maybe if you were to add an eye to eye prussic on the standing line, to the OXAN, you could use the Ring to set up an O rig for the HH also.

I'm game man. Just crazy busy the last few weeks.. we were real busy after the storm and I've been helping my friend move up to NH over the weekend. I know I have some free time I'm just not sure where I put it...

PM incoming later today!

On the HH subject I think for DRT it might be nice to have the top part squared off where the upper angled slot is and an additional set of holes just so you could clip a biner in there to keep things linear like a HC pulley. It would also help keep the HH upright if you were pulling slack from the bottom in DRT. Seems like it would be a good feature to me, what do you guys think? Let me know if I'm not being clear I can bust out MS paint and flex my art skillz

Cool. I'll look for it.

I understand what you're getting at for the DdRT setup. It could be quite functional the way you suggested.

When you setup a RADS for returning from a limbwalk, etc. you only have 2:1...think it through, you'll see that it isn't 3:1.

Even so...RADS works well

Like Jimmy said...you need to add a foot loop to the upper ascender. The way you're climbing is a little more efficient than footlocking...but not much. You'll wear out your shoulders if you keep doing chinups like that.

Adding so few pieces...which can be homebuilt, since the footloop isn't supporting you...will keep you healthy and climbing longer.

Really like that coat hanger advancer. Solves the problem I was having advancing the HH. I clipped my bungee into my bridge ring and it was erratic, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. Looks like a practical HH configuration is really coming together well.

Moss, The coat hanger seems to have beat Jamie's HH up pretty badly. A piece of throwline will work into the slots fouling the HH function. I used a piece of 5mm cord with the ends taped into tight eyes.

I originally tried some mechanics wire like Jamie did with the coat hanger, but the cord is a better solution IMO.

Makes sense. Kind of a mini-stiffy solution so-to-speak. Thanks!
