Hitch Climber Rapide

For more intensive applications I think the roller bearing would be useful but for the most part all I use it for it slack tending. Pedro the Lion totally rocks though.

Looks like they rate them at 30kn instead of 24kn like the bushing model. How did they gain the strength? Is it slightly larger in size or thicker metal than the bushing model?

Good question. Side by side they appear identical (dimensions, thickness etc). Sounds like one for Mark B. and the gang.

All Hitch Climbers are now rated at 30kN, and they have always had a breaking strength above 34kN. In the beginning we knew that the design didn't make the 36kN required for NFPA G rating, so we rated Hitch Climber at a very conservative 24kN because it was above NFPA L and 23kN. Then we discovered that a few other user groups wanted to buy them but the rating was too low, hence the remarking to 30kN. Quite simple really!

It is a bit frustrating, in my opinion, when manufacturers mis-mark the weight of their gear. If it has a strength of 34kN, why not mark it as so?

It's not that big of a deal, I guess. But it does make me wonder how many people already know their gear is stronger than marked, then plan accordingly.

Either way, the hitch climber, in my opinion, is an awesome pulley! I can't wait to try the bearing version.

It is no bad thing for a manufacturer to be cautious with strength markings. Some manufacturers overstate the abilities of their products or leave no margin for manufacturing tolerances.

It would not be good to assume gear is stronger than its' rating and 'plan accordingly'.
