hi times

I've seen this a few times, a great view.. i just don't understand osha.. how can this be allowed but i can't walk near a ledge above 4 ft without a railing or being tied off?? my old man had a construction company with osha always busting his balls. it seems like they always beat on the little guy. I work for a big company and they always get a courtesey call before they show up. the one day his workers were on a scaffold and had no personal tie of points on the building that were secure enough so they tied there emergency line to a nearby tree..well he got fined and couldn't argue the fact that tree guys do it all the time!? not to mention couldn't tell him how to properly tie off in that situation .. i get they are for our safety but dude!?

Funny how they put the lanyard snap on a prong when they could have safely put it around the structure and been secure...I'd just love to climb up there tho. Prefer a warm non windy day tho.

I'd bring a parachute for the ride down! I hate climbing down anything . I'd take a rope and repel down at least. On my bone eagle for sure . Actually repel off the end of my rope then throw my chute after a sick freefall ! Yeeehaaawww!

My favourite part is when he describes his climbing partner holding his tool bag to keep him from FALLING OFF BALANCE!!! They're admitting the likelihood of slipping and/or falling, but don't do anything to mitigate the risk?!
My lineman friend said its OSHA OK because its too much work untying and retying
I call bullshit. Since when does OSHA give a damn how much work something takes in the name of safety?

1910.268(g)(1)General. Safety belts and straps shall be provided and the employer shall ensure their use when work is performed at positions more than 4 feet above ground, on poles, and on towers, except as provided in paragraphs (n)(7) and (n)(8) of this section. No safety belts, safety straps or lanyards acquired after July 1, 1975 may be used unless they meet the tests set forth in paragraph (g)(2) of this section. The employer shall ensure that all safety belts and straps are inspected by a competent person prior to each day's use to determine that they are in safe working condition.
1910.268(n)(7)Outside work platforms. Unless adequate railings are provided, safety straps and body belts shall be used while working on elevated work platforms such as aerial splicing platforms, pole platforms, ladder platforms and terminal balconies.
1910.268(n)(8)Other elevated locations. Safety straps and body belts shall be worn when working at elevated positions on poles, towers or similar structures, which do not have adequately guarded work areas.

Lovely view though!!

Seems like they could pre install some kind of a semi enclosed channel with a ratcheting advancing eye that you could just put your snap on and the eye advances with you and clicks upward not allowing descent.

Boomslang's right, they're to be tied in. I know a guy who builds them, he climbed for me. He has told me when they bring in sections from the heli it's pretty scary because the tower isn't fully supported.

With those big hook type snaps he had on while resting judt have two and use alternately up the ladder as they go . Wouldn't even touch the ladder with hands . Just keep the big snap in hand and go ..if they are anything like the lanyard snaps from ISC I use I don't think it'd be that difficult . I thought the way I'm explaining (and I'm not good at explaining so forgive me )is a common practice for tower guys. Even if they had rings that got placed over a sideways L shaped steps .. But I think the big snaps once figured out the action for open could be manipulated to be like fall proof hands connected to harness. I personally would have a back pack for my tools as well if I went with this setup instead of the way the bag in the vid just kinda dangles around in the wind and bumps the tower. Maybe they have a good reason for that way to haul gear that I'm missing.
