HH rope

'Bout to order a HH, a grip of different hitch cords...and a new rope.

I *think* I have read all the threads re: the HH specifically and have noted that ropes tend to flatten out either a little or a lot depending on the rope. I've even seen at least one guy say that the rope he was using flattened out to the point that certain ascenders would no longer get a grip on the rope.

I am a big guy compared to a lot of climbers (220 out of the shower), so I think that the flattening effect will be slightly more pronounced with me than with some. My concern is like the guy I noted above, a rope my become so miss happen that ascenders won't grab anymore.

What ropes have Y'all been using and what has stood the test of time?

I'm about 190 lbs gear on, water and saw, I first used arbormaster with the 16 strand, very noticeable flattening, switched very soon to vortex, seems to keep somewhat round, feels great under load, no noticeable bounce.

I am interested in trying some 11.5mm, yale perhaps.

Glad you chimed in re: arbormaster. That's what I have on hand now and was half way considering using that.

I too have been looking at the yale. Any bigger guys using it?

About 190 geared up. I haven't noticed any flattening problems with NE Dragonfly (a bit bouncy), Platinum 11.5 (also some bounce) or my favorite, Yale Aztec 11.7 (no bouncy). I use the HH with foot and knee ascenders.

There is no flattening on the way up when you are using ascenders and on the way down, I feel any flattening is mostly rounded out by the hitch.

I'm about 215lbs geared up. Started on Tachyon and there was a noticeable amount of bounce and flattening. Currently using Atlantic Braids 24-strand; it has a little less bounce and not much flattening. I'll probably try something a little more static for my next rope, some Kernmaster perhaps.

That was me with my haas slipping on cougar blue because it flattens out so much BUT to be honest I had problems with the haas since I first got it. I've since gotten a new haas and have no issues even on some flat cougar blue.

The hh runs good on vortex, yale 11.7 which I keep coming back to and think is my favorite. Kernmaster runs so smooth but I'm not sure how I feel about the stretch yet. All 3 of these seem to hold their shape well.

I'll also add that after making my own and trying others that the tether wesspur sells seems to work best in my opinion.

Thanks joe. Couldn't re find your post when I went back to look for it. Glad to know it was the ascender that was malfunctioning and not that the HH made your rope unusable with functional gear. Makes me feel better about the switch, that's for sure.

think I'll go with some 11.7 yale. Thanks For The Input guys
