Here's an interesting one to bid

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

How strong is the roof?

Could you set up a rescue tripod on the roof and back tie to a back postiion and set a speed line to pluck the pieces off and send them to the parking lot?

Then the climber can have the climbing lines off of the roof and make the cuts.

Trying to think outside of the box.

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

Yeah, a 70 Ton would handle it no problem, 1 pick job, assuming its 70' from the point I said, the center of the hash marks in the parking lot between the van and the sidewalk.

Local price for the 1 tree would be $2500 bucks. The crane would cost me $828 bucks, lifting from the parking lot.

A damage waiver would be required, and I would have the crane company use extra cribbing under the palm side outriggers.

In and out in under 3 hours I figure with the crane including setup and take down, cleanup shouldnt take much if any longer.

I am trying to remember why I said $7k, it feels like I am missing something.... My bid is based on the radius from the crane being 70'. As long as it isnt over 100' the tree could be removed in 2 picks easily without a jib, but cleanup of the sawdust would take a bit longer, tarps would make it easy.

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

Wow, under three hours, so your saying that you would gross 1672 for the three hours? That is fast. How large of a crew? Does that take into account the structural obstacles built around the tree?

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

Looks like you could reach it from where that white van is parked.70tonw/jib= 130 side reach. Those trees aren't very tall are they? That's not tile is it where the van is parked? The weight of the ball would not matter as long as your operator doesn't go into wrecking ball mode!

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

I am not sure how I would handle the roof and the stabilizer ring. Probably take care of the roof the evening before the job, also pop up the boards so you can cut it lower than them (hopefully) joists under the decking may prevent that who knows I aint there, I would examine this before I bid the job.

The night of, the crane shows up, climber rigs the tree while the crane is setting up, the crane reaches over to the tree, the climber attaches the rigging to the crane. On his way down he disconnects the ring up top, unless the trunk will fit through it, looks like it might. Since this is how I would do it in theory, I would put my lift in the courtyard and not actually use a climber most likely, the roof looks like it may be fastened from above. My lift weighs 4500lbs, no more than 30psi on an outrigger, no worries of damage there.

The climber comes down, cut the palm ALAP, guide it up through the ring if need be. Swing the palm over to a waiting truck. The palm looks to be under 4' tall, lay the palm down on tarps (sawdust ect) cut into 3rds, load with crane.

Crane packs up while the tarps are picked up, take the rest of the day off unless someone is feelin frisky.

Here a 70 ton has a 4 hour minimum, which it wouldnt take. Aside from popping the boards (if thats what they want) and the roof, it shouldnt take but 3 hours I am guessing. I cant see how the roof is attached, if its just bolts it shouldnt take very long to get out of the way.

Grossing $1672? Sure, I might have to spend some extra time getting the roof and floor apart, I would look into that before I bid, but I figure 1 man hour for the floor and another for the roof and its done. The climber rigging the piece and making 4 cuts shouldnt take very long I wouldnt think? Also this would be done at night during sleepy time, so yeah, $1672 for 3ish hours of work, plus driving time and other hidden time eaters.. I cant see how the roof is put together, or how they want the stump left, so I am assuming on those. The actual removal of the palm shouldnt take very long.

How big if a crew? 2 people

Re: Here\'s an interesting one to bid

Well, it's been almost 5 months now and I got a recent shot of the progress.

Yep, they've chocked it with wooden wedges for stability but that's it so far. I pulled out of the bidding process due to a lack of communication as they were simply price shopping and wanting numbers. They said others had no problems supplying $'s on their bids but funny how months later it's still there.

The also wanted a separate price for just removing the head and leaving the rest! And were quibbling why the cost was almost the same as total removal. Maybe if they communicated instead of just looking at numbers they'd understand.

I doubt the car park roof can take a 70T crane.
