Help?????

I have 1986 KK (Mitts and Merrill) chipper, and am having difficulty getting the chips to completely exit the top of the chute.
New belts, new clutch, new blades and throat bar is square...produces good, tight chips and (6) cyl Ford is running good.
Any help would be appreciated

Chuck and duck right? Does the chute seal well to drum housing? Turbo fan deal operating correctly? Really stringy debris your normal debris? Maybe anvil gap is off. Maybe chute has built up chips i know my c and d would clog with wet debris

What are your rpm’s? Also on one side of the drum housing there should be a screen. Make sure it’s clear. That’s the air intake side to give extra push on the chips. Check your gap. Should be pretty tight. The old M&M is what I used when I first started doing tree work. Glad I’m past that now.

Says you’re from canton. Would that be canton, oh? I’m guessing so which means we have probably crossed paths or at least jobs.

Thanks a million guys
So what was the issue Mike? Was it a material issue (too big or wet/stringy) or did u actually have a mechanical problem?

I never used a chuck n' duck & have always wondered how you feed bigger material through without stalling the thing out. What's the max size on them?

I feed my chuck and duck with my BMG. I adjust the engine speed to the material, and hold it back at times with the grapple. Lightening the squeeze lets it start to pull material from the grasp. A brush spruce top clogged my chute the other day.

I doubted it would work effectively. I wouldn't expect a newb to be able to do it. I put most of a 80' cedar in by machine yesterday. 9x16" throat, new blades, good anvil. Couple gallons of gas, maybe 2.

Never bogged the engine to the point of stalling, but coulda.

So how do they size those machines? Obviously there's a max in there somewhere...

I know you referenced 9x16 but ehat's the max factory recommended spec on them?

Also.. how do you incorporate a safety into those.. like the last chance cables, crash bar, etc.. do they just not have them because it's physically impossible to stop the drum on a dime.

'BMG"?? - Bobcat Mounted Grapple?

BMG= Branch Manager Grapple. Originally designed for mini loaders but can be bought for full size skid steers
There are no safeties with C&D chippers. Usually smaller capacity machines. Feed from the side and run away. For larger pieces you either have to cut them short or add enough weight beyond the infeed to get them to release the material.

Looks like I find the obstruction...it was a split weld at the bottom side of the entry to the chute.....get it welded and give it a try. Based on owning this for years, the symptoms match the cause. I was ready to jump in until I stumbled on to the split looking up the chute instead of down it. Thank God for the internet and common sense....and you guys passing some on to me

Safeties involve:
Situational awareness

Proper work positioning

Using a push stick

No hands in the no-hand zone

Working from behind the Big Steel Shield or out past the brush tips

No open pockets, hammer loops, draw strings, etc, that can snag, etc.

No cutting corners... That's how people get chipped, imo.

How many times have you used the last-chance safeties?

No idea of factory specs.

Last chance safeties have always baffled me? What shituation would I actually be in that I would be using them? I mean, you would be already half chipped before they would come into play? Not sure I’d want to stop the thing in that case?
I wonder if anyone has actually used them?

I thought you reach inside the shoot to pull the cables to get it in reverse? HA! the little dangling cables only get in the way, I couldn't imagine having to try to grab one in a panic situation.

the panic would be the legs being eaten by the machine? slam the bar! makes way more sense!

or just simply being pulled in, i can't fathom grabbing 3/16 cables to try to save myself while getting chipped.
Say, kinda off topic but I want to buy a Monkey beav saddle But can't find one? I read that New Tribe is under threat of forest fire? Itried to contact @August Hunicke about getting one but have heard nothing back yet, but to be fair it was the beginning of the weekend when I called.
