A friend in Madison WI was asked to ID this tree in Minneapolis. Neither of us can place it

Best guess is Amur Cork Tree.

Pretty sure it's Amur cork like @Stelzer
said. If not, how about Hovenia dulcis - Japanese raisintree??? Might not be cold hardy that far north though. I think it's corktree.

Cork tree is a good guess. Rarely seen. I'll shoot the guess to my friend.
