HELP! 250 yr old Blk Oak on E Coast to be cut down

hmmmm, this sucks, you guys aren't posting. Only about 3 of you.

today was likely the last day the government and developer are going to look at that facebook page.

I really thought we would have more people speak up.

I'm feeling let down....

Tryin', man, tryin'. Tried to register on Facebook yesterday just to do this but I'm erroring out on confirmation, so I can't contribute yet. Hopefully this will be resolved in time but we are behind you on the clock. Hopefully you got enough for at least a stay of execution if not a full reprieve.
I noticed you got media attention. Hope that helped.

I submitted my facebook post on there! Its really a shame that they are willing to do this for a stupid strip mall.

What's worse is that people will never know or care and walk around their concrete jungle mall in blissful ignorance...

Maybe the Hippies had it right, back in the '70s.

But their medium was wrong, the song was a hit, no one heard the message.

X-man, Frax, Facebook was not the right medium. That, and it was already too late. Plans had been laid, approved.

Question is how do you protect the next tree?

I live in a jurisdiction where that tree would have already been on a protected list if not an historic significance list. How did that start?

Hippies? No. Arborists.

Arborists protecting our jobs from hack work, and it went from there.

Ball, your court.

We have to reach the media who will reach the public. A significant minority (maybe even a majority) of people see the idiocy of these things. But they don't know. Preaching amongst the converted does not do much. We all agree that we care deeply about trees but we all already know that. We sometimes spend too much time congratulating and supporting each other and not enough time breaking down real resistance. It feels good and lends some moral support to the few who are really putting in the mega-hours on good initiatives (as were some of you here).
Forging relationahips with orgs that act as watchdogs - Sierra Club is just one example - can help enormously. I know some of that was done. Expand on this.
Here in Alberta I communicate with a lot of professional entomologists (bug guys) and sometimes even situations that may have gone sideways wound up being great partnerships.
An example: a Provincial wildlife org was dismayed to discover that some people collect insects and wanted to put a stop to it. I won't get into the details but a carefully crafted correspondence went on between two potential adversaries, and in the end a strong relationship was formed between two groups of people who care deeply about protecting natural places and natural treasures. Networking. Networking. Networking.
Which reminds me, I have some tree nursery professionals to forge a better understanding with right now....
