HELP! 250 yr old Blk Oak on E Coast to be cut down

I will update you all shortly.

I'm done keeping everything hidden for their sake. Because time has almost run out and it appears they are hoping for that.

They are NOT responding at all, mind as well put it out there....

I'll be back on here in about an hour or two to let you know.

This kills me. I hope you are successful. I live in the wrong country to offer anything except moral support.
Not long ago a large piece of public land here in Alberta that was ancient prairie grassland (never been under the plough) was going to be sold to a potato farmer. Everybody, (ranchers, environmentalists and people who believe we have enough potato chips) including me wrote everybody else about it - the government, newspapers etc. There was enough public pressure that the buyer backed out.
Relentless letter writing and exposure DOES work!

Wow, cool. not too many success stories out there.

Well, we are going to need letter writing (e-mails) and phone calls that is for sure.

All,

Google the U. S. Senate and House. It will list your respective legislators. You will need to go to their web sites to send e-mails. Look for "Contact me" or something similar to that wording. I have sent e-mails to the Georgia senators already.

What a great effort by tree loving arborists. What other profession fights to NOT get the work? Best of all to your effort, I will call a # if you give me one.
For years I have told people
"Trees always loose" I hope I am wrong in the case of this beautiful specimen

You guys are awsome! we need everyone! Treebuzz! I hate to say it but I feel scandulous shite goin down with the coming holiday.

if this tree gets saves i wonder how long before the tons of salt that's going to be used on the rest of the new parking lot in winter snow removal kills the tree...i hope it gets saved but the fight for this tree is going to have to go far beyond simply saving it from simple construction.

An important point Phil. Hopefully the parking lot would have drains, and a curb that would prevent encroachment from traffic and all the salt. I would imagine that snow plowing will push some salt over the curb.

All the supporting Arborists is down right awesome! Arborist are some great people that give a crap!

(HEY the long version is on the facebook page under Discussions. But to sum it up in short, this is likely close to the the state champion Black Oak size, but they have never recorded it, likely for certain reasons... Also they were going to have me cut it down on a government holiday when almost no employees would be working)

Many days of this and little sleep.

Has anyone considered an injunction from a Federal Judge? Just a thought to buy time. Also local Sierra Club folks.

hey X , old oak man and many others, great job yall!

lots of people working behind the scene.

Hey I think it would be cool for the community to see posts from arborists on the facebook site if you have a facebook account.

Just a simple line like, "it would be a real shame to loose that tree".

or, "good luck Maryland trying to save that grand tree".

whatever, i think it would be impressive and at least show that arborists are people that care about such things. I know for a fact APG and the forester read that face book page time to time.

here is the page again, post on the Wall.

That one is not likely going to make the military too happy to see that.

But, I must say, it sure shows the feeling of what is going on.

I guess at this stage, it doesn't matter, they don't seem worried about their image. If they do change their mind, you might want to remove that image to show your thanks Lorax.

I would appreciate any quick posts on that facebook page too. It would be really cool to see all the arborist that are behind the scenes or looking at that facebook page lurking. Even just a 'I hope you get to save that tree'

Jeff already jumped to it. Thanks Jeff!

just go to www.facebook.com

then log in if you have an account. If you don't know facebook, it's a free thing. you can register.

Once logged in, type in the search box, 'friends of APG Oaks' and you will find it.
