helmet--double post/locked thread

what kind of helmet do you guys recommend. my son climbs about 2 years. chainsaw almost hit him in face while up a tree. birthday coming up.

Unless a heavy motorcycle type helmet is worn there's little likelihood that an arborist helmet will provide much protection from a chainsaw cut.

Choose any of the arborist helmets.

More important would be a close analysis of the circumstances that lead to almost getting hit in the face with a chainsaw.

Please explain the near-miss.

he said the guy on the ground was new. and I really don't know but it kicked the limb which kick the saw. he has no helmet his birthday is coming up.

That’s a hard question to answer. There are many good hard hats on the market, personally I like the Petzl Alveo Vent, but have friends who wear Kask or Protos hats.

My best recommendation is to choose one, approved by ANSI for the type of work you do, and within your budget. If you’re not sure which one to pick, go to an arborist supply and ask the staff for help, or call one the Gap Arborist Supply has a good staff that can help you for sure.

Another suggestion which will help us to never use your saw above chest level. That will greatly reduce the likelihood of your hitting yourself in the head with a saw, and reduces the chances of a limb hitting you in the head or chest as well.

Also an addition to the above: If the company you work for is not providing you with a hard hat, and other proper safety gear and training, it’s time to look for work somewhere else. There are many (MANY!) good, legitimate companies hiring right now, so no excuse can be made for staying somewhere unsafe and risking your life on a daily basis.
