Helmet Comms ?

we are great fans of walkie talkies with earphone and voice activated,no more headaches from bluetooth devices, failing a lot in urbanized areas.
mind you we dont use phones during work

Thanks for your replies and insight @Naturarbo ...a few questions...

- Does the voice activation of the walkie talkies allow for continuous conversation like with the senas?

- Is there noise canceling built in? Can you talk while by the chipper or running a saw?

- What model do you use?

Thanks!

-voice activaction switchs off after 5secs
-no noise cancel with hands free set and when facing the wrong way and close enough it will start with chipper noise level
-no probs with a saw unless you have it on your face
-we have a second set of devices with PTT and those dont fail we just cup the hand over while talking and not much noise gets trough
-motorola tlkr80 or cobra dont know the model thought

Haven't seen any reviews for the 3M systems yet. I'm familiar with Sena Tough talks and have found them to be excellent but I'm a bit worried about durability as well as the aforementioned button boops.
Anyone used the 3M?

Anyone tired something along the lines of this product?...Kind of confusing as there doesn't seem to be a ton of info out there on them, but it looks like you can add a neck band that allows a wireless connection to a 2 way radio...

I use the SENA SMH10's and am thinking about upgrading to the 30k's; however, they don't seem to be reviewed so well for wetness. The SpeakEasy brand is intriguing, but it seems pretty bulky. I like the integration of SENA on the hardhat!

I did the install myself on the Speak Easy system..I will get some pics. I did not rely on the sticky tape, I drilled into the headset like Treestuff does for the Senas. By doing this they didnt seem much different than the Senas! And you dont have that annoying button that can cut you off.

Following this thread closely. Need to buy comm gear soon.

Friendly heads up Treestuff has the sena smh10 in their flash sale now. Currently listed at $160. I think there's an additional discount code you can apply as well.

For what it's worth, if you only need one or two units, check eBay. Plenty of motorcycle riders getting rid of them. I got mine for $100.

I had ordered a 2-pack of the SMH10R from Amazon for $262 a week or so ago. Supposed to get here Friday:

Been eyeing those myself. How good are they at cancelling noise from chainsaws and chippers?
The only time it's a problem is when one of the ground guys loses the pop filter(fuzzy bit) off his mic boom. Otherwise they're great.

We keep a bag of spare pop filters in the bucket truck so that we can just toss a new one on.

We've been using the newer version of the tufftalk lites for around 6 months. They're certainly better than the previous versions, but still they keep breaking- either a speaker in one ear goes out, or one headset is staticky, and while they're tougher than the previous version we've still had a wire get yanked out. I can send a few back for replacement but that's a PITA and I don't want to spend time with this crap. I also don't want to spend time wiring helmets up with the ones that aren't really made for us. The tufftalks also really don't have enough hearing protection, which is an important problem.
Are there any truly commercial-grade, helmet-mounted, stand-alone communication headsets that don't break, are weatherproof, not overcomplicated, etc.? Probably not.

We use the Cardo Packtalk Bold's. They're awesome. They don't need to be paired every time you turn them off and on again, you can manage device settings through an app on your phone, and you can have tons of connections.

Hey, a couple questions about your Cardo Packtalks. We’ve been using them for about a month now switching from SENA SMH-10’s. The Cardo’s are awesome for pairing, but we’re having a few issues if you have a minute to check and compare settings on them with ours...

1. Sometimes the noise cancelling is so good that when we talk I might have to say something two or three times before the other person hears it. That could be a huge issue backing up a truck for example.

2. If someone hasn’t talked for a while and says something, the first word that comes through the speakers is painfully loud for any other user in the headphones.

I went on the app and changed mic sensitivity, auto volume, etc. but haven’t found any improvement... are you guys ever experiencing this?
