Headsets

Bull, that looks like going backwards. Looks more flimsy then the Earmarks. The key would be what technology do they use for transmitting and eliminating static and interference. Listening to someone making a drug deal in Worcester on a cordless phone was interesting but it didn’t really help get the tree down.
And I have to say I am not sold on the Kask at all, mine is falling apart already, and I rarely climb, have nothing but good things to say about the Petzl Vertex

Yeah funny you mention that, the other day we heard a guys conversation with his bank, good thing all of our guys are honest because we got all of his bank account numbers and credit card numbers.

Why would people talk about things like that on a cordless phone? Those phones are known for interferring with everything.

I think you hit the nail Dave. Technology. These are designed to work on top of snowy mountains with helicopters hovering overhead. a 3 man set roughly costs $2000 american, cant get them over here though......yet.

For now the Eartec are the set to have.

I hear you bull, but making headsets that work on top of a mountain is a lot easier then getting them to work right in Cambridge, newton, or any other urban area where everything from garage door openers to baby monitors is causing interference. Ever use the $40 talkabout walkie talkies in the middle of the woods or on top of ridge?(I am sure you have your outside all the time) you might get miles of range out of them, bring those same units to Newton and your lucky to get 100’ without static. I could be wrong but at first look at those headsets they don’t look rugged enough for tree work.

It sure sucks, all the trouble you are having with the Earmarks. For us, they have been working pretty well. We are definitely "rural" compared to New York City but we still get interference. Normally this can be dealt with by changing channels. Sometimes virtually all the channels except one will have interference.

As far as fitting to the Kask helmet, they do with some fine tuning. A minute or two with a pair of pliers bending the metal retainers tightens them to your head and a drop of thin CA on that same wire to the plastic slide prevents them from sliding down.

We've had ours a year and 9 months and use them every single day. They are holding up.
