Hat Rack Attack

I used to think people did not actually pay to have this done. I believed that those who committed acts like this on trees were unskilled guys (or gals) with a ladder and a saw whose parole conditions did not restrict the use of sharp objects. I am so naive.

But I saw an actual tree service on site here - chip truck, chipper and 4 crew. I saw it at the chipping stage. I did not actually see the cuts made.
I looked up the website of the company whose name was on the truck. They are skirting things. They make no claims to be ISA certified and they do not show a logo anywhere. Yet, their blurb on pruning 'services' states that they prune to ISA accepted standards. |Ha!

My husband who has fairly relaxed attitudes about what people should be able to do with their own trees (partly to make me nuts) was shocked. He said they miust be planning to return later to finish this removal. Their saw must have broken. He thought he saw rope in the tree. I pointed out that it was shreds of peeled bark. Double Ha! This was about a month ago. I took the image today.

I see that you guys appreciate my high quality of work. That's my safety prune accoriding to a guy I work with. That way it won't fall on the house. Must be admiring it an awful lot to take a picture.

Yesterday in my early 20th century-era neighborhood, I saw some guys hatracking one of the best red oaks in the whole city. It's probably over 45" dbh, somewhere around 80 ft. tall I'm guessing.

Dude ascended on a 40 ft. ladder, then nailed 2x4's along the trunk to create something to climb up as he went.

When I saw him, he was out on a 6" diameter limb, bear-hugging it, secured by a fall-arrest harness with the fall-arrest lanyard wrapped around the limb and clipped back to his harness. No climb line. No safety-nothing. 16" rear-handled Echo. Cutting everything with only a top cut - no undercut. Every cut limb peeled 4-12 inches of bark off with it. Rigging line was a 3-strand nylon Home Depot Special. "Groundie" not running ropes was standing right in the landing zone during the cut - no hard-hat, no nothing.

It used to be a beautiful tree.

If that is tree work, I want nothing to do with it.

It must be 'that' time of year. I will try to get a pic of the Chestnut that got done last weekend. Homeowner has been cutting 'firewood' with a bow saw everyday. Maybe he won't like it when I pull over in my company truck and snap his photo...

It is "that" time of year! I was outbid by 300 on an 800 quote by a yahoo who dropped all 5 dead pines on the Ho's fence. I drove by to see them replacing fence sections and filling in holes from poor notch and drop attempts. I wish I had my camera ready. It was nice to slow down enough to smile and wave though.
