Handbuilt Ascender

Oceans, this is a little cooler than your tether...which I thought was brilliant. The Clip N Step was Okay too...I guess. Obviously this is what I expect from a mind like yours. Really nice. I'm really impressed with that prototype too - it's not really that crude.
Thanks, JK! Again, we'll just see how it holds up over time. The mod ideas are already pouring out right now. Exciting!

No, no, no, don't scrap it. I want one.
It's just that you're too damned good at too many things! It's not fair.
I don't like you anymore. :) Kidding. I gotta a lotta luv for ya brotha.
Again, nice job.
Too funny, bro! A friend and I have a funny saying..."A man of many trades, and THIS close to mastering every single one of 'em!" I'm no master of anything, but I've been watching a lot of Kung Fu lately, so I'm inspired. LOL!

I thought I'd share some photos of the build process. As you can see, there are some ugly welds that were on the scrap pieces, and they were the result of trying to dial in my aluminum spool gun a while ago. The welds created in the build were all good...NOT piles of grapes. LOL!
You can also see that the stopper for the handles was originally designed differently, and it broke on the first trial run. The handle pivot hole was filled in with weld and relocated at a higher point to allow room for the new stopper pin to be installed.
The cam is also now looking more like that of the Wild Country Ropeman rope grab device.

A few more... Here it is in use a L hand, R hand (which allows good cam control with the tether). Also, a photo with everything deployed and the cam lock in place (S-biner works as a cam stop).

Oceans if you can imagine machining the parts to mate like this I think it may be super strong. Center piece has this lobe on both sides but other side. I think you know what I am saying.

I bet you drew that up on your CAD program in a matter of minutes...most of which time was in creating a new file. Cool stuff ML. Please send a copy of that software to...
and maybe send a computer that can handle it :)

Don't hurt me for saying this but...do you think it could open cans too?:rayos:
Handmade Ascender 3.webp Can opener.webp

The stoppers for the handles just reminded me of the old can opener we used to have.

Really not trying to taint your piece with that image, but I am sure your ascender would win in a fight.

But seriously, I am loving the orientation of the grip. I feel like that is so much more natural and healthy than the vertical orientation of most other handled ascenders.

Also, I feel like this industry almost requires you to be a jack of all trades. But you seem to be the Jack of all jacks.o_O Well this is definitely the Trade of all trades. You are a talented guy. Keep up the great work!

Screw cans! It better open bottles! [emoji481] [emoji485]
You are a little confused...ever heard of a cork screw. So you don't screw cans... you screw corks. But I'm with you on that!

But let's put a stop to this before it starts...I don't want to derail this brilliant thread!
