I like the Biner hole for the RADs system up in the middle like that. It probably helps you get the longest stride or pull out of it correct?

You're right, that would be much easier to do. I can see the CT sitting on top already, riveted flush plate behind the ascender : )Looks great. If you want to save some work I have have a suggestion. If you can work out the handle and just leave the end plain you might be able to affix a foot ascender to it. Similar to spurscender.
That's what I was aiming for, Mike. Again, a lot of happy accidents on this "art" project, but small was what I had in mind. Clearing the handle hinge on the back side was what put the hole up and away, but when I realized this, I put it even farther just for the reason you stated.I like the Biner hole for the RADs system up in the middle like that. Thank you, Tom! The ideas are already flowing here! Those blocks you mentioned would be good to build off of. We'll just see how many replies go here. Hopefully enough to get a real nice finished product that more people can use, at least.Geez...just what I need. Another gear thread that I have to follow. Will this one go to the thousand reply position like the Bull Dog Bone thread?!?!?!
Starting with an ISC or CMI ascender might work. Both have lots of material to build on.
Very nice looking prototype.
I feel bad about not talking about this sooner but we are seeing a lot of climbers not using a hand le w hich will eventually lead to pain and suffering mb even surgery or shortened climbing career. I have to plan for an aerial lift in a few years so I can continue to prune.Thank, Thomas! ...hopefully all without scoffing up all the storage space on their saddles.![]()
I agree whole heartedly! You know, I just HAVE to be on that cusp. I remember years ago, when all these older guys would say things to me like "when I was younger...years ago...before I had all this pain...", and I would mostly brush it off. Now, I can honestly see where they were coming from when I do something physically that I shouldn't have done. Sure, there are other ways I could take better care of myself (diet, etc...), but recovery is a big deal, and it takes longer as one ages.I feel bad about not talking about this sooner but we are seeing a lot of climbers not using a hand le w hich will eventually lead to pain and suffering mb even surgery or shortened climbing career. Either way I drag my hand ascender with foot loop around the tree with me all the time. Looks pretty to me your design will be great improvement esp in compactness and aligning all the related body parts and tissue for greater comfort and efficiency
The handles don't lock, they only come to a stop when both fully deployed, but you can run the handles parallel throughout the full +/- 90 degree sweep. You could basically run it as a L or R single handle ascender. Can you lock the handles left up right down and vice versa . To monkey around?
True that...true that. I think this would make people gravitate a bit more to building a good habit, even if only because you don't feel as though you're carrying around too much kit.Hands...wrists...elbows...shoulders.
It would be a real shame to see the savings in body wear and tear gained from using SRT being used up by not following modern ergonomic knowledge. If so, there is a net loss.
I look forward to your ideas and drawings. In one of the photos attached, you ca see the mini S biner relocated to lock the cam to prevent it from coming off the rope.If you made the handles lock you could use it as a grapple for traversing? I know this is from left field but why not? It also may be clunky but what do you think about a second rope channel where you have the carabiner hole, when the carabiner is in the hole it would capture the rope in the channel futher improving the clean line when in RADS mode.. I'm also visualizing a pulley sheave there too.. I'll try to draw something up to explain these ideas.
