hacks and toppers

How funny, I just mentioned the Lorax in a post for the first time last night. Now he has appeared for real. Is the Great Pumpkin out there, too? ...No offense, L, just seeing what I can conjure up!

Hmmm..

Desktop PC that I stay away from
Mac IBook G4 laptop...my primary!
iPhone...almost counts as a computer
Eight year old laptop that hasn't been fired up in two years

Why do you ask Jim?

This thread has all the makings of a "Witch Hunt"

[/ QUOTE ]

It looks like it has started, see the fuzz-balls post he started.

Good or Bad, looks like it's happening.

I'm glad I'm not a witch or look like a witch.

Looks like it's got the people that do occassional mild toppings fired up.

btw, Mr. Lorax was asking me in a pm about the company name of who I took a picture of. I decided to keep that to myself. Keep me out of it. And Lorax, if you are going to send a pm, just send a pm you don't have to post about it. I think you were just trying to pull me in on this.

Fighting among companies will just make life terrible for everyone. It's like when one neighbor turns in the other neighbor for not getting a permit first before he builds a shed. Then the pissed off other neighbor turns in the first neighbor for something else and it snow-balls and no one makes out.

I don't know what to make out of his post yet.

Making people accountable and getting it out in a widely viewed media, might be a strong deterrent. Hmmm.

"Hey Tom,

Do you have 2 computers in your house?"

I know... weird, huh? ...I would definitely be more discreet if I was going to have an alter-ego LOL!

you might not believe me, but i did not read your post before i started on tree buzz. i know it sounds like too much of a coincidence, but its true. like i said, you won't likely believe me.

x, i have to say, you are disappointing me.

If a doctor was doing malpractice, wouldn't other doctors try to stop him.

If a guidence counseler was molesting a kid, wouldn't another professional turn him in.

If a police man was robing banks, won't other cops arrest him.

If an Arborist is mutilating trees, shouldn't we do the best we can to stop that person?

have a good day everyone.

Loraxx, I really don't think that you created yourself based on the fact that I mentioned the Dr. Seuss character. It's a pretty pervasive theme in tree preservation, so I'm not surprised.

I get frustrated when I see poor workmanship, just like anyone else does, but I agree with Noel that it's important to focus on ourselves, and to try to make the industry better, rather than call out companies one by one. Here in RI everyone knows who they are anyway.

Your comparisons are too extreme to use for this subject. Doctors sign the Hippocratic oath. Police are sworn to protect and serve. Molesting children is a heinous crime, and a felony.

I get your point, but I disagree. There have been other threads that address poor work in our industry and what can be done about it, and the idea of free workshops for non ISA/TCIA companies was mentioned. I think this is the right path to take rather than pointing fingers and calling people out. The reality is that the enforcement of poor tree work is weak, anyway.

"Molesting children is a heinous crime, and a felony".

Molesting trees is a heinous crime to me,
can't people just let them be?

How 'bout this for a crime. These r done by Essy's tree service in Billings MT. These r city owned trees and across the street from a popular city park. The city forester says "there is no definite law", except for maybe destuction of public property could apply. But since it was ordered by the adjacent property owner it's "OK". What if I was to go to any city park in the US and top out dozen trees. Would this be "OK"?!?!?!?!?

"Then again he came back! I was fixing some pipes
when that old nuisance Lorax came back with more gripes."

I admire your stance, maybe just a tad too aggressive. One on one does work (at times). Everyone here has the trees to thank for their livelihood and so much more, now how do we convince everyone else?

"UNLESS"

Patrick,

Holy crap dude!

Now that's out of a Dr. Suess book itself.

Who would do such a thing!

No wonder the Lorax is pissed!

Xman here's a video that tells the story of Neighbours leading to what you described. It's 8 mins long.

If TCIA and ISA set up booths at Garden shows or Home shows they could do tree owner education. Each state has a chapter that could take on the job. Recently at the NJ Garden show only Bartlett was there.
