What do you expect of YOUR ground crew?

Rope/ rigging wise?

Saw skills wise?

Pruning skills wise?

Maintenance wise?

Driving wise?

Show up on time and work hard. All of the other skills you mention are guys that will become climbers.

I expect them to show up on time. Stock trucks with what supplies are needed for day. Have a valid drivers license and medical card. inspect their truck for trip to job. Drive truck, back truck and trailer up. Set up a safe work-site. Drag brush, run the mini loader, fell small trees and large spars when needed. Know how to run a chainsaw in regards to bucking limbs. Know all crane signals for communication. Know how to stock a cabling bucket with all tools needed. Know how to tie and untie 5 knots. I am sure there are more things but that is what I expect. Once they have show efficiency in all the above they advance to learning how to climb and run the bucket.

Most important I expect them not to kill me or damage property. Other than that I teach them everything I can including some basic climbing. Most guys pick things up fairly quickly when they're doing it every day. After a few months I expect them to be able to do everything I can except climb.
