GRCS Storage

So i was "convinced" that we needed to buy a GRCS and now i need to figure out the best way to store it in a way that i can move it from one truck to another and/or back into the shop without dinging the heck out of it.

I briefly tired a rubbermaid tote but it won't last and i fear that the drums will get dinged taking them in and out. What do "y'all" do to keep your GRCS fresh and clean?

This will fit both the winch and bollard, spinner handle, a couple of large blocks. I also keep a pair of heavey welders gloves for rope burnin, a splicing fid used for cookie rollin of the spar and the driver bit. could fit a bit more in it yet bit heavey and gets thrown around alot and can't break out. Even in the blistering cold. Weather sstripped so everything stays dry.

The harness just gets thrown around.

I would've got the one with wheels and handle but it came out much later. Just wheel it around.

Thats' worked for me for 6 yrs

I feel your pain, Nuthin Special.

We have our GRCS in the truck, 'set' in one of the big side boxes. The crew knows to set it in nicely so it doesnt roll around. We have to 'set' it in the bucket truck for some jobs and we transfer it all out, piece at a time. Notice, I never say 'throw' it in the truck. It is expensive!

I tried a rubbermaid like solution (stored it in the man-cab), but that was not working good. Don't worry, you start to forget how expensive it is and just let it ride anywhere in the truck...

Forgot to mention good idea to bag the bollard.
Just doing maintenance and found quite a few minor gouges with sharp edges.
A fine stone took care of it all.

the harkin and the handle I wrap in a big rag and put it in a small wooden box. the same with the aluminum bollard wrapped in a rag..the mount and the bar go on the floor of the trailer.. I put everything in the climbers trailer (6x12) that I use. using rags is good because I wipe it down after every job b4 I put it away.. cost alot of money.
PS It is a great tool!

We keep ours in a custom built wood box that one of our guys (Nathan) built. Rope handles on the sides of the box that the handle can slide through makes it fairly easy for two guys to carry from the shop to the trunk onto the job and back again (a dolly or ball cart make moving it on the job site super easy).
We wrap a towel around the bollard and the Harkin seems safe enough in the box but it would probably be a good idea to wrap that too.
It's definitely awkward for storage and transport but oh so worth it when you need it.

I treat my GRCS the same way that I treat my kids in my truck. The GRCS is secured with the seatbelts in the backseat of my F150 crew cab.

The winch gets the middle seat, and the frame gets the end seat. Both are right there easy to get to when I need them.

we use the storage boxes in the bucket trucks, wrap the drums in an old pair of chaps or a blanket to prevent burrs. we also have a large plastic tupperware type box. has wheels to transport.

Haha, i can just hear the GRCS on the way to a big take down...."are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet"
