GRCS Drill

I just bought a GRCS, it's been years of making due with out one. However, now I have a list of jobs in the works which would make a GRCS indispensable. It's been years since I've used one, as the guy I've worked for has a mini skidder winch ran off a 4 cylinder Nissan car engine.

I'd like some type of power source to run the GRCS for long hauls that isn't corded. Is there a cordless drill that can keep up? Gas? If so which one?

I think, in essence, that the cord will max out power and the cordless will be a bit behind. I own a portable generator w/ corded Superhawg. Hardly ever use it unless bracing because it's a pain to haul around, and it makes tangles worse (see below). Last time the generator would not start (probably due to infrequent use...). Consider the Aussie chainsaw drill setup, because you'll always be using the powerhead, keeping it maintained.... the noise would be an issue unless you have SENA. Consider the M8 fuel superhawg battery powered, in link noted above. Do *not* get a hole hawg unless they've added a clutch.

Unless you have a specific application need, use the hand crank for a while.

Additionally, in my experience, a rigging line will frequently get crossed up in the grcs bollard when it is being used infrequently due to lack of ground crew repetitions, so hand cranking lessens the tangle. Tangling a line in the bollard is a real show-stopper, the biggest issue I have with the grcs, which I nonetheless love.

Xman says the Stihl gas powered drill doesn't have the guts to lift with the GCRS.

That Stihl chainsaw attachment almost looks interesting to try but unlike the Aussie Atom Auger it doesn't appear to have the very positive safety aspect of automatically reversing if you come up against too much
torque against a not moving object.
