Tim,

How come I can't respond to your grabby dabby post?

Did you ban me from being able to respond, or is this some glitch in tree buzz?

Did you get me mixed up with someone again?

You sent me the free one to give feedback. I'll give feedback in a month or so.

Wanted to say to your post: Keep the old name. Sidekick isn't bad. People were just looking at anything to poke fun at on your old posts.

Or what about extend-a-reach or something like that.

Take the ban off me if you have one on me by mistake.

I sent you a Personal Message a week or so ago, thanking you for your sidekick, but got no response, so I'm posting publicly here.

The "grabby-dabby" post was locked. This was a hard decision for Mark and I. I actually locked the thread.

Let me explain why...

When Tim first posted about his tool we were fine with the discussion. But his input to the forum became a bit too much like an infomercial. Mark and I both asked Tim to participate in some other discussions. If you do a search you'll find that most of his contributions to the forum was self-promotion.

Besides a couple of very coarse-languaged posts, this is really the only bit of "monitoring" that we've had to do on TB. Another vendor/participant was asked to drop his link and he understood. I won't go into the details of what we wrote to Tim but we were very up-front and asked for his voluntary cooperation.

Since we have sponsors who pay to keep the doors open we have to respect their contributions. There was a comment about the use of "Treebay" to sell gear. If you look at the description it talks about person to person sales. We ask that any of the nitty gritty dealings be taken care of outside of the TB coffee shop. By a pretty broad definition, a manufacturer and vendor is a business not a "person" and that really stretches the intent of Treebay.

Mark and I look at these things on a case by case basis.

Please post any thoughts about how this issue has played out.

Tom

PS theXman,

If you can't get Tim's email address by looking at his profile, send me a note off-forum and I'll get it for you.

you guys gave ample warnings to him. Good for you guys in making a tough desision. If you allow this kind of self promotion, what value do your paying sponsors get? /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Of course, this is from a guy whose logo is on his picture. I figure most people don't know it from a hole in the ground and if someone ever asks, I'll remove it. I have also talked with Mark about running an add in the future. If you look at my books for the last few years I'm probably considered not for profit anyways. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just to elaborate a bit more, the thread was locked and Tim is still free to participate. He just needs to talk about something else.

Making a post about the product to let everyone know that it exists is fine. That's one of the reasons for this site. But, enough is enough.

Also, on the whole Treebay thing, it is meant for swapping or selling things that you maybe bought in haste and have never (really) used. Some manufacturers or vendors may have personal gear that fits this description. We just don't want people taking advantage of the space. Cool?

BTW, some vendors are actve partcipants in other good discussions as well. They don't just hang around to pedal their products and leave.

Wow!
Guess I've offended the powers that be.My apologies.Henceforth there will be no mention of the sidekick (aka)grabby-dabby from me.To anyone interested in correspondence:My e-mail address is teppersonus@yahoo.com.
As regards Marks kind offer to post about other things I have already posted about the utility of pickaroons:(no, I don't make them) but they are teriffic back-savers.I wonder if I would be (locked out ) should I post a heads-up about another true labor-saver like the jet-sled(no, I don't make that eighther)
The point is my interest lies in bringing to the attention of the average tree guy out there various labor-saving devices that enhance the efficientcy and safety of what we do on a daily basis
Again my apologies for having ruffled some feathers.
Tim

Tim,

I don't know if you fully understand the reasoning or not, but as a third person I can give a description of a person in a similar situation. This person exercises themselves in an exemplary manner on treebuzz when you consider his potential 'agenda'. Its Dave who posted above. He too has developed a number of innovations for arboriculture, some of which are also in production. And yet his contributions to this forum are extensive and not littered with his own personal 'agenda'. Dave's one product is available for sale from local suppliers, and we have some at Humber. Personnally I'm not a fan but fortunately I'm entitled to such an opinion. Following an example like him is probably what would sit well with 'the powers that be'. Or pay for an ad, or become a sponsor even!
