Genie TZ-50

Just saw one at the local rental yard. I've used tow-behinds about a dozen or two times.

If you I think you can see the charts for reach, vertically and side reach.

The extra articulation can be useful.

Easy to tow these lifts, and can get them into some tighter spots. Wonder if they don't have less ground pressure, too. Your chip truck can be a separate unit adding some flexibility to your set-up over a chip/ bucket truck combo, and if needed, you can dump chips while the bucket is still working. You will need an extra vehicle though to tow it.

Might be able to move it through narrow areas with a loader or tractor, or just a regular truck where you wouldn't get a bucket truck through.

I have used them on many occasions. I would recommend the TMZ 50 that has a self-drive function. I personally would suggest the Nifty Lift model over the Genie any day. The Nifty has smoother hydros slightly higher working height and a gas motor option as well as a battery. When in self-drive mode it is slow as hell but nicer all around.

I used the Genie TZ-50 and didn't like it compared to the JLG 500T. I like both battery and gas options. Running off of battery is a quite operation (if you disconnect the beeper).

The company I work for has a spider lift made by Hinowa. Has a 76' reach and when collapsed we can fit it through a 36" gate. Great device for super risky trees that can't be climbed, which opens the market a lot more for us cause premiums can be charged, and we can do a lot more jobs other companies can't. Its a bit slow though.

We rent the TZ50 several times per year. It is nice for what it is, but the reach really is limited. Its a great little unit if you can get right to the tree. For larger trees, plan on moving the lift several times if you are pruning it.

We've rented similar lifts a few times. The articulation and telescoping is pretty sweet. The reach is limited so they're no good for kong sized trees. They've really shined for us when we have to do back yard trees that a bucket could easily access from an alley except that the alley has lots of low-hanging overhead conductors that our bucket truck can't fit under/around. The best way we've found is to have the rental place deliver and pick up the lift the day before and day after. They're really not built to have wood and brush dropped on them so extra caution is required when it comes to that.
