Gas verses Diesel

you will be very happy if you get the 4500, change the fuel filter set up to a nictane style (smaller micron) and add a leaf in front and rear. if its 4x4 that will be a beast. sell the trailer get a dump trailer and use rest of money towards truck
What is a nictane fuel filter? We currently run one 5500 with the duramax, and although well aware of the injector issue down the road, that thing will pull a friggin tank and ask for more. Tows about 8k daily empty and we also load it up...not that we ever overload it... cough....but it is tagged for 22k.

nicktane.com, duramax (isuzu) recommends the motor to have a 7 micron. gm thought it was cute to make there ac deco an 11 micron. the bosch fuel system on the duramax is very temperamental. nictane makes a billet adaptor that screws right on to the housing and lets you use his brand filter which is a 1 micron or use a cat filter, or a donaldson/ water separator. once you buy filter housing you can use any of the filters just have to buy different nipples. they also make an external filter system that you can add a secondary style bolted on to the frame. i run the 1 micron set up on the motor n cat style secondary on the frame.

Be careful when "tuning" diesels with programmers and such. Most transmissions are not up for the task, at least for a long time.

My 2001 f-350 ate three transmissions before I bought one that I should have bought first. BTS transmissions are rated for racing, pulling, and a general beating. All the tranmissions were smoked before I added bigger injectors. The truck should be in the low to mid 400rwhp versus stock 190rwhp.

Dude. You shelled out the dough for a BTS tranny for work? What are they, like 6 grand?

Some of the best money spent. Yes close to $6k all said and done...seen them sold for $3k with 100k miles on. Always a wait of near a month to get one. That's why I always got a pos $2500 stage III 450+hp rated tranny that would last exactly longer then the 2year warranties. If you own a 7.3 and bump up the power you will destroy a stock transmission towing. Power is cheap compared to the "supporting" mods to be "reliable"... This BTS has lasted twice as long as the others sofar...still pulling hard and shredding tires!

Which programmer were you using?

Yup, thats the truck. 30K miles. Truck is a tank. Handles the logs with no problem. You know it's there when the trailer is loaded, but it can haul. I am really amazed by the power. Also, the power and the way it is geared seams to be a winning combination. I am very happy with it. SO much better than my 550. The turning radius is really nice.
I would say that if your hauling lots of solid oak, we tend to not load the trailer all the way. Just to keep it on the safe side. I think the truck could pull it. But I try and baby it. Nicest truck I have ever owned.

Was using DP now Beans as I have Beans injectors.
All custom to truck weight, tire size, gear ratio, shift points, tc lock up, tow weights...
I have the cheesy ol' Banks Six Gun on my Cummins 5.9. I've been told they're not at worrisome as other chips, but of course your gains aren't as good. Think I should upgrade injectors at 145K miles?

Nice looking rig Royce! You might want to consider having a bigger pintle fabbed up on a hitch plate for the truck. I'd bet that your way over tongue weight capcity for that 2" reciever.

Good call. Plus, you can have it moved rearward some also, because in that photo it looks like your trailer jack is really close to the tailgate.
How's that lift gate for dumping chips? It also opens at the bottom like a dump truck tailgate, correct? But since it's hinges are only halfway up the chip box, if you blow the truck full of chips and dump, do half of them slide out over the top of the tailgate?
Does the truck have a removable top? Something you might want to consider, what with the Valby right there to lift it off. Then you could load wood into the truck also. Ohhh, the possibilities are fun to think about!

Royce you need a class a for that combo right?
I de-rated it to just under 10K. Now, very often we are over but around here, the only one looking is a farmer. I just know what jobs are going to need lots of wood moved and find someone close by to take it, and we usually do two trips.

Yeah, I looked at the rating for the hitch and it is 18,500. Should it be more than that?

I have not had the truck fully loaded yet with chips. I am curious about that as well about how it will dump. I really don't need the lift gate with the trailer and a mini. But, I really don't want to take it off either.
No removable top. That is in the plans for this winter. The previous owner had the box custom made. He left the top make of plywood so he could remove it if needed. I am going to re-do the plywood with a removable top.
The trailer jack is really close, however we have not had a problem with it. I was going to remove the jack and put it someplace else. But it hasn't been a problem. But I guess it will only be a problem once, right!!
