Better news.

unfortunately the consequences of the trade war are, as predicted, negative for american manufacturing.

Four major automakers are racing to find workarounds to China’s stranglehold on rare-earth magnets, which they fear could force them to shut down some car production within weeks.

Several traditional and electric-vehicle makers—and their suppliers—are considering shifting some auto-parts manufacturing to China to avoid looming factory shutdowns, people familiar with the situation said.

Ideas under review include producing electric motors in Chinese factories or shipping made-in-America motors to China to have magnets installed. Moving production to China as a way to get around the export controls on rare-earth magnets could work because the restrictions only cover magnets, not finished parts, the people said.

If automakers end up shifting some production to China, it would amount to a remarkable outcome from a trade war initiated by President Trump with the intention of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.

“If you want to export a magnet [from China] they won’t let you do that. If you can demonstrate that the magnet is in a motor in China, you can do that,” said a supply-chain manager at one of the carmakers.

China in April began requiring companies to apply for permission to export magnets made with rare-earth metals, including dysprosium and terbium. The country controls roughly 90% of the world’s supply of these elements, which help magnets to operate at high temperatures. Much of the world’s modern technology, from smartphones to F-35 jet fighters, rely on these magnets.

I've posted this link before. It is necessary to view all sides and components in every situation.

if actually bringing manufacturing back to america was the goal, somebody in charge in the past eight years (who was that?) of sabre rattling against china should have had a policy of building a domestic rare earth magnet mining and refining industry. it would have taken government subsidies and investment to get a domestic industry on its feet while it wasnt profitable to compete. then, years later, when that industry already exists, you can tariff the hell out of everyone so its way more economical

or you can tariff first, blow up your reputation and credit and scare off foreign investors, and also not invest in a rare earth magnet industry. i guess the true goal all along by both dem and republican presidencies was creation of vast grey and black markets? maybe everyone should put all their savings in crypto after all

Typical of the arse kissing morons Taco Don has surrounded himself with. People whose only talent is complimenting him and buttering up his pathetically inflated ego. How long will his own supporters remain blind to how little he gives a f*ck about them? How long is he going to keep trying to shift blame back onto Biden for stuff that he should already be working constantly to fix, things that he instead is usually making worse? The only thing he seems to be making any real progress with is his promise to curb illegal immigration, but even with that his ICE goons are making a total hash of it, rounding up women, children, people who are here legitimately, and people who may simply disagree with him and exercise their constitutional right to speak out. Why is almost half this country so gullible and ill-educated to buy into his BS when it is so patently clear what is really going on? His continuing picking on Biden to distract from his own incompetence and corruption is the last straw for me. Biden is seriously ill, deserves respect for over fifty years of service to this country; and, even if he was already a cadaver propped up in the Oval Office, would be a better president than Trump and certainly do less harm.

its an american manufacturer problem. once again, tariffs without corresponding industrial policy are economically suicidal
We constantly hear from his supporters that Trump knows what he is doing, he is a successful businessman. Really? After how many bankruptcies and felony convictions for bank fraud? One thing any good businessman does, top of the list, is you take care of your customers and suppliers. The US is part of a Worldwide economic partnership; we cannot stand alone without customers for our products and suppliers for raw materials we don't possess ourselves. This is other countries. To piss them off with bullying like we just tried with Canada, creating lasting ill will so that they circumvent us and trade with one another instead, is economic suicide. Every single professional economist warned of this, but of course science or fact means little to Trump.

I am reminded of the young marine and his non english speaking immigrant father that I had the good fortune of spending a few moments with yesterday.

Another very sad day for America courtesy of DJT.

There is no way this escalation is going to play out well.
I doubt the Feds picked a fight understaffed on purpose. The intent was to pick a fight to call in the military (national guard and flex with the Marines).

Definitely a "Trumped up" excuse.

Meanwhile, Abram tanks are being tralered from Texas to Washington DC.

Next week after the roads are assessed for damage I wonder what will happen. My bet is the military turns their back on the damage and leave it for DC to figure out. The end of the party in DC is just the beginning of what’s to come.

Do you support the idea of using the military as law enforcement against the citizens of the United States of America?
