Mitt and other repubs want witnesses, and now Trump former Chief of Staff John Kelley says he believes Bolton. The dam is beginning to crack!

It's about f*cking time. I can't believe the incompetent, egotistical gas bag has lasted this long. It does not say much for this country and its values that he has so much support. The basic premise of American independence in 1776 was to get rid of a despot who thought he was above the law, wasn't it? Looks like we are back to square one again and poor old King George doesn't look so bad now.

The problem is that the future of OUR country an our democracy is now in the hands of the Republicans and men like Mitch McConnnel, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and John Cornyn... These men have inhaled the Kool-aid, and the thought these sycophants holding our future in their hands is pretty fucking scary........

Has anyone watched the performances of Trumps legal team? So much for the best and the brightest?

How does Leningrad Lindsey GrahamCracker go from recognizing Trumpalump for what he is, to burying his nose all the way up the Orange Menace's ass in only a few years. In 2015...

SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM: I want to talk to the Trump supporters for a minute. I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you like about this. I think what you like is he appears to be strong, when the rest of us are weak. He’s a very successful businessman and he’s going to make everything great. He’s going to take all the problems of the world and put them in a box and make your life better. That’s what he’s selling.
Here’s what you’re buying: He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and women that wear the uniform are fighting for.

He wasn't onboard with Twittledumb's talking about a ban on Muslims, back then.

SEN. GRAHAM: I don’t think he has a clue about anything. He’s just trying to get his numbers up and get the biggest reaction he can. He’s putting our soldiers and diplomats at risk. He’s empowering the enemy. And this ban, if actually enacted, would take people who have been interpreters, who came to our side in Iraq and Afghanistan—who are under siege in their own countries—and basically becomes a death sentence for them.

But, these days, Twitler could be butt-bangin' babies in the Oval Office and Senator Stupidgram would be right there, holding Donald Dipshit's hand and talking dirty.

Whats your opinion of having no witnesses or evidence in an impeachment trial Buck?
Bout the same as having no witnesses or evidence for Trump during the House proceedings.

Schiff overplayed his hand. The line of argument was this: “Our case for convicting and removing Trump is incontrovertible and overwhelming. Yet if we aren’t allowed to call more witnesses, this trial will be a complete sham.” How can each part of that statement sit with the other? Either the case has already been thoroughly proven or a fair trial requires calling additional witnesses to establish proof. Both can’t be true.

They should have called each of the witnesses they now want during their own proceeding. But they knew that would take too much time. So they pushed it through. They might regret it. Impeachment means nothing now. It'll be used as a partisan weapon for generations by whichever party controls the House assuming their guy isn't in the WH. His approval numbers have actually gone UP since impeachment started. Strange times.

Pure dishonest propaganda Buck.. It seems that more than one Republican Senator has come forward to say that the House did prove that Trump is guilty of what he has been accuse of doing.

“I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the United States Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense. …The Constitution does not give the Senate the power to remove the president from office and ban him from this year’s ballot simply for actions that are inappropriate.

“The question then is not whether the president did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did. I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday. …Our founding documents provide for duly elected presidents who serve with ‘the consent of the governed,’ not at the pleasure of the United States Congress. Let the people decide.” – Senator Lamar Alexander

“Let me be clear; Lamar speaks for lots and lots of us" Ben Sasse

"New witnesses that would testify to the truth of the allegations are not needed for my threshold analysis, which already assumed that all the allegations made are true." Marco Rubio.

The Whitehouse council began its defense of the President by lying to the American people, and you are simply spreading those lies here..

The Whitehouse Council has also just been implicated in the Ukrainian shakedown. Yea the Whitehouse Council Pat Cipollone is actually a fact witnesss to the crimes of his client, DJT. Oops...

"Mr. Trump gave the instruction during an Oval Office conversation in early May that included the acting White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, the president’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani and the White House counsel, Pat A. Cipollone, who is now leading the president’s impeachment defense." John Bolton...

No wonder you folks are SOOOOO afraid of witnesses and documents....

Having new witnesses during the Senate Trial that were not called on in the House investigations is the historic norm and not the exception.....Yep, during the 231 year history of the US Senate every impeachment trial has called witnesses that who had not testified during the House's investigations....

"In each of the 15 impeachment cases completed by the Senate, witnesses who were not heard during the House of Representatives’ impeachment investigations testified in front of the Senate.

To say new witnesses are not an appropriate part of the Senate trial process is totally contrary to history and precedent given that Senators have called forward as many as 50 witnesses who had not testified in the House in previous impeachment trials, and out of the 15 completed trials, only three had fewer than ten new witnesses."

Taking all that at face value, nothing changes. Dems knew from the start that this was going nowhere. Now they’ve shot their shot and missed.
(No doubt they’ll just keep trying to re-impeach, further cheapening the term). Post- impeachment, post-acquittal Trump is gonna be a dog off the leash freight train. Just sayin.

However, I never underestimate the ability of Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Romney or Collins could very well vote to remove. Don’t lose faith!

Either way, I still think that SOTU is going to be interesting.

Oh their shot hit the mark, as was admitting by Republican Senators. Sadlythe Republican Party has proven itself to be a party of cowards, who are willing to put their own personal political interests above those of the nation.

Cheapening off the term? Really... Trump has been shown to have solicited a foreign government to interfere in our sovereign electoral process, thus giving him an uppper hand in the upcoming 2020 election....Foreign influence and meddling was one of our found fathers biggest concerns and the main reason they included impeachment in our Constitution...No president in our countries history has been accused and/or proven to have acted so corruptly. Ever....If this is not impeachable nothing is......

Here is what really scares me. This Dersowitz, not sure of the spelling, says Trump can do what he wants, even break the law to get re elected if he believes its in the best interest of the country.Trump believes his re election is best for the country so this was ok, is the argument. This is the biggest bunch of BS i have ever heard. What i find really hypocritical is conservatives are always talking about being afraid of the government unchecked and how they dont trust the government so they need militias and military style weapons and pallets of ammunition to fight the government when they come to take our freedom. Cant they see this is what Trump is doing? If he is re elected i fear his next move is to remove term limits and move towards presidency for life like China. I can here the scoffing from here, that wont happen. Hitler took a democracy and through mostly legal means turned Germany into what we all know happened. It seems useless to point this out to people who think the world is 6000 years old and guns play no roll in gun violence.

Can we at least all agree he is guilty of what they say? Can we all at least agree the debate is whether its impeachable? This would be a reasonable middle ground. To say he did nothing wrong and dont want to hear the real truth is crazy. Republicans made the decision to not convict before the trail began. So just say he is our guy and we stand by him instead of all this other BS.

Yea we are getting dangerously close to a monarchy here... The Republicans answer seems to be 'if the King does it, its ok"..

@Bucknut

Leave your dancing slippers at the door..no tip toeing around.

Emails held back

Let me get this right. The thugs claimed that releasing these emails was a security risk...UNTIL!!!... after the vote??? But now the security issues have changed and they can be released???

And this thuggish behavior is OK with you?!

When the majority party leaders announce the outcome of the trial well in advance of the actual trial, and the kangaroos won't let the witnesses in, it only serves to deny the public the truth. This gets right to the meat of the sandwich, which is to pile the shit so high that no daylight can get through the stench.

It all comes out, anyway... and like with Nixon, the virulent supporters of Cheeto Von Tweeto will likely be singing a completely different tune, a few years after the fact. At least until the next wannabe Hitler pokes its ugly head out of the mud, promising to eliminate whoever the current bogeyman scapegoat is, and leads the country right down the same path to the gutter.

Keeping out the witness testimony came down to a single vote, which is a pretty good sign that the wind is starting to shift direction. After November, it's going to be a lot more obvious what the future of our democracy is going to look like... one way, or the other.
