friction saver problems....

Also, TMW I lowered the FC out of one of the valley oaks using the throwline and it came down nice and smooth. Great technique when your FC is pretty high in the tree.

I use a screw link a lot. Made another with a plain old washer and it works fine. Rich sent one of those plastic balls, but it broke while trying to retrieve and left the FS in the tree. Overhand knot to the rescue. Metal is the way to go.

Do you all typically hitch the ring so far down the line? Such as in your last pic, treesandsurf. I always attatch the retriever at the and of my line so that if the FS doesn't come out I can pull my rope back through (with the throwline I've attatched to the retriever) and down to the ground. Makes climbing up to get the FS a lot easier.

Hey Cory, which one broke? Did I send you one of the Black ones to try out?.... or was it the little red one that broke?

End of the climbing line when retreiving a FC from a crotch (and almost always with a throwline attached);

About 4-6 inches from the end when retreiving an AFC from a spar.

It was the black one. I noticed it cracking a while back and knew that it would last. Then one day after reducing a Bradford Pear (that sucked) it broke and vanished in the grass.

Good point, I didn't think it through to be honest about the distance the ring should be from the end of the line. Makes sense to put it closer to the end rather than further back though, for that reason.
