Freaking hot!!!

Pretty hot today, luckily we had a 6 hour day, good thing, around 5.5 hours into it, I got the chills, shut the chipper down right away, grabbed my water and headed to the shade. Of course the hottest day in 10 years or more and were working on a parking lot with hardly any shade after we were done, actually had to go into a neighbors yard for the shade. My thermometer said 101 in the shade when I got home. Tomorrow is suppose to be almost as hot but more humid, we might stay home.

Welcome to my world. We get about 5 months straight of that kind of weather. Ive worked in it for 33 years as an arborist. Ive lived in it for all 51 years of my life. Im a direct decendant of the Seminole Indian Tribe. I will never get used to the heat and humidity. I feel for you folks up there. Drink at least 2.5 gallons of water a day

I feel your pain jeepman, we dropped out at about 6 hours too. Lucky for us we were not on the parking lot and we picked some smaller trees to work on. Tomorrow we are taking it easy I believe as well. Be careful drink lots of water.

Yep, it was a scorcher today. 85 at 7 am and then it just got hotter. 7 hrs for us but we worked the shade to our advantage. Not much of one but better than none at all. Tomorrow is going to be the same.....

We hit 97 today. I havent had my pfanners on in that kind of temp before. I have to say, I hate the heat but,.... I dont think they made it any worse. If anything I was hot tired and capable of making a mistake I might not normally. I didnt but if I had my legs were protected.

Oh and I got a cat out of a tree this afternoon. Easiest ever. Once I got close to it, The cat walked a limb right to me....Boy was I glad for that.

The temps have been normal here...for Austin...mid 90s for a while. Wearing chain saw pants is bad! They are warmer and thicker than ANY of my winter pants too.

With hot days like this I can't say enough good things about my camel bak

I fill it with ice and water. Tons of ice. I leave it in the cooler that's filled with ice water and strap that bad boy on. It's ice cold right against my back and easily drops my body temperature a degree or two

I also avoid energy drinks and coffee as well. Those things dry ya up quick! The hardest thing is getting the crew fed. Usually it's too hot to eat, appetites are down but god forbid you skip a meal, it'll ruin you

Most people would suggest to skip eating. I on the other hand take the boys to a sit down lunch. Usually about an hour long. Everyone gets fed, fueled and hydrated and not once have I missed my numbers. In fact, the crew has averaged at least a 30% increase in daily revenue due to increased moral and oddly enough, proper diet. We haven't had fast-food in over two years!

Don't forget. Water is great but too much of it can deplete sodium to dangerous levels. On weeks like these, a bag of hard pretzels and a 10 min break really comes in handy

It has been tough working conditions lately. I grinded out two 20" Colorado Spruce stumps in full sun during the hottest part of the day. We also had rain blow in on top of the heat/humidity during a pruning job which led to a very miserable afternoon. I struggle keeping my patients all together in this kind of weather. Heat combined with high humidity is a nasty work environment especially after 9 hours of work.

Another day of the same temps here in North Jersey. Two big removals but thankfully we left the wood. Being from the north I habitually wear chainsaw pants. Pfanners yesterday and Stihls today. No difference in heat or comfort level. That camelbak sounds like a great idea. I have been encouraging short breaks for hydration and a soaking with the guys. Its the only way we'd make it through the day.

Strange weather out here in SO-CAL , we should be having a hot July but we are in the low 70's and that's not normal out here ,, just 2hrs ago we had a 5,5 earth quake out here in SO-CAL .. Drink plenty of water

Later in SO-CAL

You gotta keep your cool mentally... take it a bit easier, loaded coolers and long lunches etc.. Just take a bit of the edge off...

I was 100' at 100º yesterday and only one moment of near cramping.. another 100º today, mostly bucket work... Humidity didn;t seem too bad, which is huge!

actually taking saunas in the summer is helpful.. late night spend an hour at 145º and 98º during the day doesn't seem so bad.. gotta work... this could get to be a record breaking weekly gross if everything goes right friday... we'll see..

We got a taste of the heat today. Our hottest day so far in Olympia, somewhere in the 80's. Tomorrow it'll be hotter, 93 degrees, maybe.

We're getting the climbing pruning done early/ first in the shade, then some pruning from ground. Hopefully done with more work before 1030am.

Grapple truck to pick up brush and wood. Gotta love hydraulics.

While I wait for my friend with the grapple truck, I'll try to get some interest in tree work from passersby. We are pruning over the golf cart path tomorrow, and have been working next to it today. They've been driving and walking by frequently to Tee Off.

Ha ha Jesse, glad someone from the SW put this little heatwave in the NE in perspective. we have about four months a year around the triple digits and it's a very busy time too. A lot of takedowns usually, where you take the shade out in the first hour and bake in your PPe for the rest of the day. Like anything, you end up getting used to it.

What I carry in my cooler is a big supply of water, emergenC and a couple of mangoes for lunch. Sandwiches and anything else but fruit slow me down.
I also don't drink any alcohol the night before, even small amounts can make your life miserable the day after.
