I agree the pay is way too low, but the benefits are good. Lots of paid time off, guaranteed 40 hours per week, good retirement, tuition assistance and other professional development (ceu assistance), 4 day work week.
If the pay was where it should be, I would have taken the job months ago.

If the pay were where it should be I would have taken the job 9 years ago. The thing that turned me off was the 24 hour 7 days a week on call status. And the comp time scenario would allow for many days off from time to time, but you are still on call, so don't go anywhere.
There are a lot are great people there and it's the right job for someone.

Don't be affraid of the on-call thing. It kind of rotates between a few people. Very few call-ins. Hopefully some day they will do something about the pay. Public Works was restructured, but Parks has not been. Not yet.

I need to come work for you guys! Nobody pay climbers jack squat in Wisconsin. 15 years on rope, PHC supervisor for our office, and I could fix any piece of equipment we had.
$18/hr and profit sharing was the best they could give me.
