Flying with your gear?

I know his has been covered before but I really never paid attention. Is there anything you can't put in your carry on, besides the the obvious like hand saw.

Throwbags!!! NEVER in carry-on!!!

Biners have raised eyes in the past.

Many years ago I got the eyeball for having 'a long length of rope'...uh, yup?!

If you're checking the rest of your gear what would you put in carry-on?

Whatever it is consider that TSA doesn't have to explain themselves and you could loose whatever gear you have, no matter how legit.

The best advice I ever got about traveling with climbing gear was to put a printed gear catalog in the top of your gear bag and carry one with you if you have carry-on gear.

Hmmm. I am in Charlotte air port on a layover. In my carry on is my harness biners throw bag. Ascenders various small ropes and a shackle. They made it thru. In the past I had a 4" adjustable wrench not allowed though.

I had all the stuff I didn't want be separated from in my carryon, harness and hardware and didn't have a problem with it. All kinds of cutting stuff in the checked bag. They went through the he-purse top to bottom and it only had books and a couple of AUF issues, you know, business papers...
