fleet maintenance software

What do you guys use?
I am looking into adding a program to track maintenance and repairs.
any one use Manager plus?
there is a huge spread of prices on these products $300-$7000+ depending on what you get, any input would be appreciated

I was looking at fleetmate. I haven't purchased it but was looking around also. Fleetmate stuck out because it looked simple enough for us to use and did what I wanted and the cost is $400 for under 50 vehicles.

Good luck!

By the way speaking of maintenance how's your altec 38-127. I have heard from alot of guys that they are problematic. I just sold our crane and thinking of going in that direction. Looking at altec and manitex.
Thanks!

Hmm. $400 to track oil changes and scheduled services? How many pieces of equipment do you need to make that worthwhile? If you start using detailed software then you have to track more data which means more time collecting and entering it. Thats where costs start to buildup.

I'm looking at something like this closely too but I can make a mean excel spreadsheet in a matter of a few hours that can track lots of maintenance info.

Around 30 pieces of equipment with some more on the way. I have thought about making my own spreadsheet/data base with either excel or access. That would be fine if I was just looking for maintenance records. My goal is to set something up where i can track our inventories also, we order all of our filters online an save 50-75% vrs buying from the dealers. The issue is we have lots of filters sitting on the shelves with all Donaldson numbers, not international or Deere, so we have to cross them to a spreadsheet we have and mark their use every time we order. Its well worth it when you look at the Air filter on our 790 is $120 from Deere and roughly $70 online. It does create somewhat of an inventory problem. Some of the programs have a barcode feature where I could just scan the filters as we get them. I also hope to be able to set it up to track smaller items such as chainsaws, gps's, safteygear, and other tools. Not sure if thats asking too much, or if its going to turn into a full time job just "playing" with the program but i going to give it a try.
My real concern is keeping proper records for DOT, I want something that will very clearly display the entire service records for each piece of equipment to make it easy to get though an audit if and when we have one.
I had a really good conversation with Tony from www.fleetio.com , he saw my post here and called me to discuss my needs. Their product is still new and they are working to tailor it to server our industry well.
Our Altec 38-127 has been great, three years+ and going strong. We bought the three year warranty with it from altec so any of the minor issues that came up, mobile service took care of. We had an issue with the gear box on the winch a while back where a MST (mobile service tech) missed something and resulted in the winch needing to be replaced, it turned into a bit of a cluster, taking way too long to resolve but the factory stepped in and went above and beyond anything we could ever have asked for and made things right. When we buy our next crane if its in a size altec offers it will be a no brainer they have been great to work with.

I've looked at the AG equipment maintenance feature. It's not very comprehensive. I don't even think it's better than an excel spreadsheet. It basically keeps some vital data on a machine and you can keep a maintenance log. I need software that will ring an alarm, some sirens maybe, to let us know that something needs to be fixed.

I guess it would be better than nothing and since i already use AG it would be free.

Yeah, it's a start. Talk to Donna about beefing it up!

Is that what you did. I don't trust that ag's programming fees will be any cheaper than buying a software package.

I'll have lots of time this winter to figure it out anyway. Unless I smuggle the crews and equipment over the border to do some east coast storm damage.

I looked for her but didn't see the booth. I was trying to get as much of the show covered with only a couple hrs to do it.

You may want to check out the myfleetdept.com, they have a package that might do it for you!

It's funny you mentioned fleet maintenance since I've recently been working on that. I just built a small building to do maintenance and was thinking about a software that could track not only fleet maintenance but chainsaws and other small tools as well. And then also keep track of inventory....it would be worth at least 400 to me if the softeware would help me keep on top of everything...cloud-based sounds good to me.
