Flannel shirt weather

Ahhh! I finally have an excuse to wear my fleece gear. The mornings in Austin are a bit chilly...not cold. And, the Gator that I drive is an open cab so the wind of the road blows on me.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a two sided fleece jacket that fits nice and snug. The sleaves are a little short, but, for a buck I can live with that. Besides, the jacket is light and dark green, good colors.

Now, if it gets a little cooler at night I can have an excuse to wear my leather jacket that I bought last year. the leather jacket season in Minneapolis is about ten days in October and then another ten in April. Not long enough to have a dedicated jacket.

can any of you guys or girls doesnt matter which recommend a great pant that fits loose not too loose, unfortunately or fortunatly depending on how you look at it i am built more like a guy no hips so guys pants fit alot better. any how any recommendations?

Hey Starlet,

What type of work will you be doing in said pants? Personally I think stretch jeans are the only way to go, picked up at random second hand shops. The jean material gives you some modicum of protection from glancing cuts and abrasions, the stretch material feels great, and doesn't look half bad either! You can do yoga in these types of jeans, they really don't inhibit movement. In cooler weather, provided its not wet, smartwool tights underneath, or some other wool or polypro tights, some high wool socks, and you are good to go.

hi kelly
well i do everything but climb, i run equip. tractors and such, air spades, alot of walking bending, diagnosing and selling. i am at the age where climbing is out of my league to do it too many times. but other than that alot of other things, also i do pruning.i have never seen stretch jeans. i do not like working in jeans they are too restricting. unless they are like a painters pant style, loose lots of pockets. plus i am not tooo skinny, but not heavy either, i have a real problem with womens pants. no hips, plus my hind side thank goodness is still small. i am sure that it is from never having a sit down job. what do you think?

Stretch jeans all the way, one brand is bound to suit your style/form. But hey, that's just me, I think canvas pants tear too easily and dirty up too quickly.

Also, its never too late to start climbing, trust me! Take the climber up on his offer of instruction.

Well Dear Person,

You missed most of my story, though I am called JerseyGirl, due to the fact that I am born and raised in NJ until the a better age of 10 less then I am now, then I moved to the warmer snower less hills of Georgia and once a Jersey Girl always a Jersey Girl.

I help with the southern area TCC's and am a Rec climber that stays with hand saws and my take downs are nothing more then thinning out the 5 acres if woods that I live in.

SO to answer your question, No I do not attend any of the ISA training sessions

I am about 80 miles north of Atlanta - right up 400, to the end, in a small - pop 3300 on a slow day, town of Dahlonega.

we are a gold mineing town with a college/university and a ranger camp. a really great place to live.

IN NJ I lived in woodbridge twp - ha ha - exit 131 on the parkway.

Josephine, if you read this, go for small on the arborwear double thick hoodie.
I got medium, it is too big, but super warm and comfy. I am a little on the slender side.

Arborwear tech pants are the greatest for climbing, and doing virtually ANYTHING rough, dragging brush, pruning a rose bush, gardening, handling toddlers, falling down stairs, etc.

I did manage to get silk long underwear for Xmas, they have been keeping me warm this winter, and I got my first two pairs of smart wool socks. Those things are AMAZING. I love them. If I were rolling in big money I would invest in other smart wool articles of clothing.

Um, I also developed a large fondness for fingerless gloves when I am not tree climbing, it makes texting and wasting time on the blackberry easier.
When tree climbing, the winter atlas gloves are ok for warmth, but seem to bulky to get a good grab on the rope. Stupid skinny fingers!!

I can't wait for this weekend, I am going to get my first climb in in at least a month.

If the weather is bad again in Missouri, I am moving.

The arborwear are great

I have gone from silks to the dnce tights. the ones without the feet in them. standing about in parking lots in COLD southern winters, under layers are a must.

Also worn are compression pants - that are knee lenght - just adding the right amount to the area that get the coldest for me.

SMART wool are great but a little pricey, the Wigwams - the ticker ones work well in the Asolo boots

keep warm -= spring is only a few days away

SURE it was 31 here this morning.

jz - still wearing layers
