fixing throw cube

My first post here at TB in many moons... trying to get the a feel for the site and wondering what took me so long to come back around. Lots of good info here. I AM grateful to Tom and Mark for setting this site up!

I tried a search and found nothing, though this may have been covered already....

The support rods on a couple throw cubes got broken, which made the cubes hard or impossible to keep from collapsing. Otherwise the cubes were in functional shape. I tried making a splint for the one fiberglass rod, as shown in the photo, but the sleeve was stitched so tightly, that even the rubber tip wouldn't slide through. So I just replaced the fiberglass rod with strand from an aluminum cable.

Time will tell if the fix hold up, but is was quick and easy. I'll probably "shoe goo" the tips to mimick the rubber tip on the fiberglass..

Hello. How about replacing the broken rod with a piece of wooden dowel of same or close diameter. Should be more rigid then the cable and available at any hardware store. Just a thought.

I shoo-gooed the corners on my cube after one of the wands popped through. I'm trying to think of what cheap, common household thing you could buy to cannibalize a wand...

And welcome back.

You can buy carbon fiber or fiberglass rod of the same size at any good hobby shop, more specifically Kite shops if you have one near bye will be able to hook you up with some replacement rods and parts.
That said dowel would work fine as well I would think, cheap like borscht in any decent dollar store.
Have fun,

The best way to repair those Sherrill cubes...

Throw them away and buy a Faltheimer. Its worth the money.

I've had a Faltheimer for a few years now, with the extra fold into a triangle it makes your throwling tangle unlike those cheapo Sherril 'fold and hold' cubes. The fold and hold cubes stop the line from tangling by omitting that extra fold into the triangle.

I'm only continuing to use the FAULTheimer cause it cost so damn much!

The Faltheimer are fantastic!
I know the fold the throwlines, but if you buy some good lines, it isn't going to be problem at all.
I have got the new "Snakeskin" http://www.freeworker.de/store/seileinbau/wurfleinen/snake-skin.html

That is excellent!

Extra folds? The knock-offs fold as many times as the Faltheimer. Mine works well but i did have a rod poke through a corner. I'll try the shoe goo or something similar to repair it.
