Finally

Hey all,

I guess it is time for me to chime in. I have been climbing in this saddle for about a month now. I'll tell you straight up that I do not like leg strap saddles. I have tried just about everything out there at one time or another. That is one of the side benefits of being an instructor for North American Training Solutions. I get sent to places with huge amounts of all types of gear for seminars and stuff. I tell you this, not to pat my back but so you will understand that I have indeed tried just about everything in a climbing/working setting.

For the past six years I have been in a Buckingham Versatile with a bosun seat. I figured that was as good as I was going to get. Now I know I was wrong. This saddle is the most comfortable I have ever used in 13 years of tree work. The way it can be custom fitted to the user's body is great. The multiple options for a bridge are excellent. A lot of thought has gone into this design.
Climbing in the rain last week I found many ways to stabilize myself on less than stable footing. I thank the ability to adjust the side "D" rings to my liking for that. Not to mention the climbing plates that form the basis of the bridge.
I will warn you, if you do not like to tweak your equipment, then this saddle will pee in your cheerios. To get it to fit and be as comfortable as possible it takes some fiddling.

Now of course this is just my opinion. It's Sunday evening, the beer is cold, the wood stove warm. Take my words for what they are worth. To you that is. If you have any other specific questions I can try to answer them, but you might as well ask tree teacher directly since he designed it. I will be glad to help if you wish though.

FT, I got my fingers crossed. All of Buckingham's saddles are approved. Once I get the money and can justify something of this nature I'll get the OK to use it at work.

Thanks for chiming in Tony. I have been waiting for a review good or bad. You have confirmed what i believed.

Only problem is it makes me want it more than ever now. lol

Tony,

You're right. I happen to be able to wear a suit pretty much off-the-rack, but I've tweaked my work positioning harness. And willing to for maximum comfort and performance.

We are all built a little different.

No worries if those that don't like the rope bridge design, there are 5 other suspensions to choose from, that will be available in 2009, we didn't have them for sale at the TCI show as they were still in the prototyping stages, however they will be ready soon.
Also available soon,
1) A fall arrest attachment with SRT compatibility
2) A SRT attachment that can make the Ergovation SRT compatible.
3) A batten seat for users that are performing work in suspension for long periods of time.

If folks are interested I can post Pictures of these attachments as well.

The key to ergonomics is not to fit the person to the tool, but fit the tool to the person!

I'd like to see a photo of the back. I'd like to see how to store tools.

Here it is

Also the back is an open web construction so you can customize and place beiners or caritools where ever you want

I wonder why Buckingham added the extra webbing connector from the bridge D rings to the leg loop. Why didn't they allow the leg loops to slide like on the TM? I wonder if you could toss the extra section and just run the leg loop webbing through the D ring?

That you first assignment, Mark. Alter that new saddle.

im wondering if buchinghams design will protect the leg straps from excessive wear and tear like the tm has been going through. also, it looks like, while sitting down, the leg pads would have more of a stiffer, bosun type feel to them because it will have tight connections to two different points on the saddle, where most saddles have no strength on the back side of the leg loops that connect to the waist (for example, the treemotion has a 4mm stretch cord connecting the leg pads to the waist belt, not for strength, but just to keep the leg pads held aloft while wearing it)

The reason for the wider webbing used on the leg strap retainers on the back of the leg pad, is this saddle is capable of being converted into a full fall arrest harness, the wider webbing is needed to give the support and meet test criteria.
