Finally Picked Up the Reecoil Saw Lanyard

I was going to get it the other day when I was at the saw shop but didn't do it. After the climb that day it was to tempting seeing how I had gone without one for too long now..... I had in the past used Teufelberger Antishock but stopped using it do to the zipper to the pouch always opening after awhile. I know it is after the fact but I wanted to ask anyway, has anyone had any issues with the Reecoil or has it been solid for ya? It seems beefy enough plus has great reach for me comfortably. Thoughts or tips appreciated! Stay safe all

I just got the recoil lanyard myself. I like it. Plenty of reach. I have noticed the coils can get snagged on branches and rope but it's not really a complaint from me. I've just put it into muscle memory and keep aware of it. It's only a small nuisance when it does. Also when letting saw hang fully, without clipping back on the saddle, it hangs quite a bit lower than before. With my old lanyard I could lay the saw across my flip line and the saw would be right there at the ready. Cool for cutting limbs on the weak or opposite side. Now the saw hangs a bit lower and I can't just grab it like before. I'm not switching back to the old lanyard though.

If your gonna climb single line you should really check out some ascenders that ladder looked like it really wasn't helping

Thanks for the heads up man!

I can't speak to the Reecoil, but if you want something that stays out of the way I'd get yourself a Snake retractable chainsaw lanyard....

I actually was lucky enough to by my arborists shops first one they had of the snake and it honestly solves the chainsaw lanyard issues I've had in the past. Maybe Jim can do a review on it cause I know they are fairly new

I never remembered to look when I climbed with you last. Are you still using your snake?

The snake lives on my saddle but I tend to only use it when I know I'm gonna make a shaky cut. Either far out on a limb and my work positioning is compromised, when I'm making a topping cut and I know the spar is going to send me for a good ride, on pressure cuts or basically whenever I anticipate that dropping the saw is a possibility. But the snake's compact design allows me to keep it on me at all times with ,at this point , no snagging or catching

Makes good sense

That's the problem with our Trade, gear is constantly being redesigned and refined, as well. Now, after watching several members videos with drones just adds to the point that I addressed earlier! Gear is coming out faster than most of us can keep up with. I'm getting more and more intrigued with the drone applications for Tree Work. That's a different story for another day, I'm still trying to work out the kinks with my GoPro's. @Fairfield definitely appears to have his video gear all figured out! Some of us older Climbers (mainly me) [emoji849] just aren't as tech savvy as our younger cohorts. Back to the Recoil, I'm extremely happy with it! Especially, after being attached to the Tuefelberger lanyard for so long. Not sure about the "Snake" for heavier saws, though. [emoji848]

Jim love your stuff so hope you don't get mad when I bust you for pruning an elm tree in season... Last time I did it, I was just making a few cuts with the pole pruner from the roof.. a perfectly healthy tree died early the next season... JUST GONE!

Who knows maybe you'll get lucky and the smoke will mask the scent of all those fresh cuts..

Na I don't mind, LOL 18 years of tree work or so I am numb for the most part at this point! Sorry to hear about the Elm, I had not had that happen to me yet knock on wood. It is all good though, one that was pruned is going to be removed anyway just not yet ( i just didn't want to look at the massive bushyness of it anymore till that point) and the other I had to ignorer to get a shed in the spot..... eeehhhh
