Feedback regarding Altec Industries

I’m a small business owner and I own one bucket and three employees. I’ve recently had serious problems with altec regarding getting a replacement cylinder for my upper boom. The diesel shop has told me altec couldn’t care less and has dropped the ball every step of the way. I’ve been waiting for a month without my truck btw.

Additionally I have called twice in the past month regarding getting a service truck out to do an annual inspection. No call back either time.

I’m in the market for a new bucket in the next year or so and I like altec controls and the rugged nature of their booms but these experiences in the past month has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I’d appreciate any feedback.

We have had zero problems with our altec guys. We actually just had their service truck out to do a recall repair they notified us on a Thursday a few weeks ago then the following Tuesday they were out to do the work, can't complain with that. My only complaint about altec is their booms have virtually no grease fittings so you can't grease anything. Very few on the bucket even less on the crane my crane sounds like a mad t-rex, my only option that does not involve completly removing the attachment pins is to soak it down every day with penetrating oil, so my boom looks like it shit its self...
I think it may be the same deal we experience with our morbark, Vermeer, bandit, husky, stihl, and dolmar dealers some are awesome while others suck...

Where are you located?

We had an altec demo for 3 weeks. The person I dealt with was great. The truck was new from the factory. A couple odd things was the electric breaks at the back of the truck weren't hooked up if you were pulling a dump trailer for example. The pistol grip in one direction was super slow. Then the last week we had it a rear outrigger started leaking. Left a softball size puddle on the floor.
I know people that have bought multiple trucks from them and say they have no problems.
If you want custom forget about it or wait 6 months.
I went to Custom Truck One Source Forestry, Formally Utility One Source, formally FEVA out of Lynchburg Virginia. They build terex. I've had independent hydraulic guys tell me buy an altec so he can stay in business. He prefers Terex because how easy they are to work on. I got a custom color truck built in 4 -5 weeks. Would have been 4 but freightliner didn't get the chassis to them in time. I like the set ups better if the terex. Elevator is parallel with the rear axel. Allows way more deck space.
