failed lock stiching

Question and I don't want to derail the thread but I need an opinion other than.."I would not do it", "goes against intended use" etc.
I get out in the jungle at times, long hot hikes carrying gear, some of the trees can be very tall, looking at canopy anchors of 180' or more set with my big shot and a base anchor. For the back side of that anchor I have used Sterling 6mm powercord but it is rated at 4200 pounds. (hanging at 150' on the way up and looking at that 5.9mm line can give you the willies) The Samson AmSteel Micro Rigging line is rated at 7200# and has a spice. MY CONCERN IS THAT SPICE, and to some extent the knotability of that line.
With that spice being in perfect condition, would you trust your life on it????? Why or why not?
oh, and "hire a sherpa" is also not an accepted answer.

Yoyo- IDK man...I'm weird when it comes to trusting splices. I know there's lots of documented data regarding all the different splices, and that should probably be enough for me, but when it comes to life support, I usually have to do my own round of rigorous testing so that I can see that a test splice does indeed hold and in all.circumstances before I can trust my life to it without being nervous. If I got a hank ofaam steel and then did all my crazy tests and it held, then yeah I probably would.....bywhy not just hire a Sherpa? :D

I only SRT so my ropes no longer carry splices....I have trusted many a splice....but now I am into sewn eyes on my hitch cord, when I wrench....I love treestuff's sewn stuff, compliments of Phil and ABR

Because they are so compact I can't imagine anything but a sewn eye for a hitch cord.
Same for the climbing line, I have a sewn eye on one end so I can always have a good option for DdRT on one end and SRT for the rest of the line.

I will never climb DdRT ever again...I am not keen on absolutes but I detest DdRT after over three years of climbing SRT....I guess I am a snob...SRT is just my thing....my ropes just don't need a splice it's actually a pain....

Even just to pull the tail up for a quick positioning around a stem.. think of it like a long lanyard for a spread out situation.. Could be easier then setting a different line and breaking out another runner ( I know you got two lucky) just you ,two biners, a HC and a hitch cord and SPLICE..! Lol

Aaron can't remember the last time I used my tail for anything, except to throw it in the direction I am going...I am nothing special but I bully trees and mostly climb tree not rope, I use my climbline a lot for balance and to create purchase ( I do kep slack minimalized always )...SRT has always appealed to me for this reason...redirects always create setups for better positioning for me I am a redirect king...how about this....lol...always a story...IMG01463-20140605-1429.webp

Then another redirect, enjoy this view....siberian elm storm damage and no great TIP....make do get up and out...and the DOWN....pull line....lolIMG01476-20140605-1450.webp

You could hang on that line Richard. Obviously I wouldnt recommend it at all for a working system.

For a jungle rec climb, there are different standards. That shit is strong as hell though and the splice isnt going anywhere. Its just Grey Amsteel. You could also use Maxim 5mm tech cord, which is rated at 5k but breaks much lower with knots.

Keep in mind my rock climbing line 9.1 mm breaks on my test bench at 2100lbs with a knot in it.

Ahh, dental floss. I remember when a skinny rock climbing line was 10.5. Sorry to derail but where do you climb around Indy?

I've used 5.9 mm power cord on the back side of the anchor, (MBS 4,271) and in reality because it is on the back side it probably needs less strength then the front side. ...........still, looking at the pencil when you are way up there......
Thanks Nick, good to know you have such confidence in those splices!
