F8 revolver set up

Am I missing something with the F8 set up. I have tried this on Tachyon with 10mm Bee Line (with the red thread) in a VT hitch and found it to be not as smooth as so many of you seem to say for walking OUT on limbs (hitch was binding up too much). I used a revolver and a large rigging ring (same I.D. as my figure 8) and feel like I had my tether at the right length.

I'm curious to know what others out there are using for their rope and hitch cord in this technique.

do you have any pictures of your set up? it would be easier to see where you went wrong if you did go wrong somewhere. if you did it right you shouldn't experience any more friction than you normally do with a friction hitch. sometimes you might need to loose a wrap on your hitch.

agree you gotta put a little muscle into.im sure over time it probably gets easier as your forearms start to resemble popeyes.Actually in my opinion I like it for trees that i work from top to bottom(downhill climbs with not a whole lot of horizontal movement) but im not a pro with the system just a dabbler.

The ring looks a little big maybe, Is it the large ring from a cambium saver? have your tried it with the eight. I havent found the ring to work as well for me. As for coming back in, there is a little action that takes a minute to get.

The ring is a steel ring rated for life support. It's too skinny for a friction saver ring, though. I got it from another arborist who can get me the manufacturer name and stats, which I have forgotten. The interior diam is the same as that of my F8, which I have tried with the same results. Thanks everyone for your comments.

It doesn't seem ez to advance. For me it works great cumming down but not so much for going back up.

Hey, is it Scott? I just wanted to have the honor, if I'm correct, of being the first person to "Like" one of your posts, after you've been a member of this forum for nearly 10 years, and around 830 posts or so, at this point.

Thanks for sticking around for so long. It seems really cool and appropriate that I like a post of yours in a thread that deals with the genesis of the device that basically started the revolution of SRT for tree climbers.

How cool is it that way back then, Kevin Bingham was his same, steadfast, helpful self, and chimed in with his opinions to answer questions in this thread.

Big thanks to Kevin for being the inspiration that he is.

Tim

P.S. I guess Kevin figured out how to make it advance more easily, after all.
