Engine oil/hydraulic system change intervals?

150 hrs? that would be changing the oil every three weeks... sounds like overkill. All of our equipment has 400 to 500 hour service intervals (we follow the intervals recommended in the service manual for each engine)

changing hyd oil every 1000 also seems extreme, I would suggest as others have to take samples of it and send it out for oil analyses if you are concerned about it. If you sample at regular intervals you can learn a lot about the internal health of your equipment and potentially catch issues before they become failures.

Yep,every 2-3 weeks.trust me,on a cat c-7 it's not overkill I know from experience.
 
For 2,000 hrs I changed my oil at 350 to 400 hrs. No issues at all with the engine. A friend with the exact same setup in Arizona has done the same, also with no issues. It's hard to argue against frequent oil changes, other then the expense and labor or course more frequent is better then less. You may have just hit the injector lottery, something else maybe was part of the problem, obviously many others go much further with zero problems. I'm just trying to protect the resale value of my 3126 powered crane!
 
really interesting thread. Anyone care to summarize? Bit confusing with engine oil, hydraulic oil changes discussed interspersed with filtration testing and even boom lubrication etc. But as 6T56 mentioned is it really plausible to change engine oil based on hours when you might be doing a lot of engine hours over the road and they are not on the pto clock? But then if you go by miles you don't include the engine/pto hours. Eeek.
 
nice to have two hour meters to tell how much time is on engine and how much time on hyd system. time on engine is key because the engine hours count the most to determine service interval weather running down the road or running pto on the job site.
