Does anyone have/willing to share some kind of an employee contract?
Something like if there was such a thing as a three year contract with info about salary, increases, benefits and perks?

Any help would be appreciated.

I see you are in Illinois. I am not sure if ArboRisk is in Illinois. Anyways our insurance program offers an extra program that you can be apart of that has people that can answer your exact question. You are looking for something like a Employee Handbook?

I don't see how any employee would sign a three year, or even a 1 year contract. What would the stipulations of the contract be and what would be the benefit to the employee AND the company?

And isn't Illinois an At-Will state meaning you can fire them at any time for any or no reason and they can quit at any time for the any or no reason?

What can I say, It's winter and I'm just doing some thinking...
My contract idea is/was a thought about how to have a win/win situation with a key role employee for a term basis. Such as...said employee would have a salary with (?) raise every year over the course of, say 3-5 years and within that time frame at certain intervals that employee would have to earn some kind of (?) and be performing at a particular skill level.....
Just some thoughts............feedback?

What you are talking about isn't something that you'd find in an employment contract. Those are company policies. You're on the right track. Having the pay raise framework that is visible for everyone to see is exactly what employers and employees need.

You WANT an employee to be learning more. You want them to say, "hey, you said here if I can tie a bowline behind my back, change the chipper blades, and sharpen a chainsaw that I would get a 50¢/hr raise. I can do those things, so pay up."

This would totally make your employees better AND your company better.

But you don't need a contract for this.

The at-will concept exists without a contract. The contract would actually limit the EMPLOYER

Right, NJ is too. The contract could be worded to limit the employer to specific notification, cause for dismissal and likewise the employee. It would give the parties assurance that their efforts wouldn't be derailed so easily.

It sounds like your trying to implement some sort of specific program for an individual employee that would give you some peace of mind that they'll likely stick around due to the incentives outlined in the contract. If this isn't planned for all employees then it's not a policy document but a performance contract for that person only. Other elements may be to restrict them from using proprietary knowledge gained will in your employment and non-compete after parting company. These need to have reasonable limits as unlimited restrictions and non-competes make the contract unenforceable.

Nick,
Yeah, that's what I'm going for....just want to figure out how to put all the thoughts/ideas into the document. Any other thoughts are welcomed.

YES, that's it... Now to figure how to create this document so it can be implemented.

Thanks Humper

I have a description of pay increases I gave to my main guy(i only have the one guy, hopefully more in the future). Plus job description etc.

Kinda what Nick alluded too. Starting pay with increases as Certs and skills have been achieved. He liked seeing that and is working on goals. I will provide financial help for certs or outright pay for them, as long as he doesn't walk out the next day.

A signed contract is about as good as a handshake, when it comes to this. It is something though, incase you need to let someone go. I layed out a number of things that I have a zero tolerance for so it's all black and white from the get go.

Remember a contract is "the meeting of minds". What's on paper is only evidence of that. Google elements of a contract to get an idea of what is necessary to create a legally binding contract.

I'm still trying to figure it out.
Anyone else want to throw one up here?

Just googled sample employment contract. You can pull up one of those and make changes to the text. Know any employment or contract lawyers who you can barter some treework for a contract?
