Ekka....tsk tsk!

Yeah, I often feel like little more than a buzzard waitin round for somethin to die...

Total derail but my favorite vacation sights are urban trees, the ones that survived being messed with. The how-not-tos can be as instructive as the how-tos. The veterans are more evocative than the virgins, to my ear.

Yeah the anti-ISA vibe was corrosive. I got banned for quoting 2 ISA journal articles that did not support his undeniable theory that building a boardwalk in a rootzone was better for them than mulch, at a playground.

Actually there are good questions about wall 4, and more very serious questions about the D in CODIT being Dryness and/or Dysfunction/Damage rather than/along with Decay. See Gilman's 3rd edition of \his pruning guide, etc.

It's one thing to think outside the box; quite another to build your own box, with an altar inside, and a throne, and call it The Tree World.

I met several cool Aussies through there; no complaints, moving on.

Agreed with most of Guy's post except the first paragraph. To each his own re that one. Gotta agree with Jomoco there. There are 3 choices when chosen to consider a tree care choice...1. treat it 2. remove it 3. leave it the hell alone and don't try to squeeze money out of it when unwarranted.

As for the D in Codit...he (Alex) would have been the first to agree with the dysfunction inclusion (actually Sean Freeman's premise back then)... however this research specifically involved DECAY, he being the pioneer on/in this subject. He could perpetually be heard to discuss dysfunction and tree's inability to repeat functions as the precursor to its demise. Gilman is such a non player in the research of this subject's history imo tho. Ekka considered callus wall 4.

I distinctly remember the huge drama (not) that was the park and the wooden posts in the root zone for the boardwalk he advocated and his disdain for the mulch alternative. Arrrgh. When you (Guy) put up the ISA mulch PDF he went ballll istic lol. I have a cool picture of this Park on my website I "borrowed" that he also was pissed about when he and I had an epic 2 week, approx 10 page knock down, drag out battle on ASite which led to him being banned over there haha. Lucky it was only fingers on the keyboard involved or both he and I would have lost teeth, been covered in bruises and probably had numerous bite marks in the aftermath (lol again). I had his back as his right hand man, with misinformed and hostile intruders for a couple of years ...then like I have said before...he lost his mind and began cutting off everybody's heads (banning them) not unlike Apocolypse Now :-)

Aussies are a hoot to hang with outside of the Tyrant and often I could imagine myself physically over there (down under there) while on the forum for a couple of years like I was on R and R from VNam in the late 60's. If I wasn't a loyal US citizen, I would live there.

From my website...

Australia is a great place Treevet,as you are aware.

Loyalty is up there with one of the best traits a man can have,so I take my hat of to you!

Dsve youre rich; go ahead!
I went there to stay a week and wound up staying a month, and it was still hard to leave.

Thanks for putting up that pic--not the one i remember, but its fuzzy. anyway imo a boaredwalk would be horrendous. Its really hard to conceive the underground tree.

Weren't they in somewhat of a political battle with the ISA as well? I think they were attempting to run a chapter under their chapter if memory serves me right and were told to cease and desist. My memory doesn't serve me all that well sometimes tho.

I believe that was Arborculture Australia. And if my memory serves me correctly the final spit was over fees. AA was putting a percentage on top of ISA for membership and was told to cut it out. Obviously they didn't ending in divorce.

The ATA was started by Eric. He believed that local governments was crooked (which they are)and believed that ISA was trying to get a monopoly foot hold for its members within the government frameworks. Along the lines of anti competitive behavior(Eric used some slight stronger language when I spoke to him).

Yes you are right.

Another thing that stands out in my memory was the "Islanders (?)" They were said to be these giant guys that came ashore and knocked doors and hacked up all the trees and ripped people off. I remember television news video of him sneaking around buildings and such filming them with his helcam. Probably not an advisable pastime. He was all for anti competitive behavior when it came to them.

Also when you talk of him you have to think of JayD (Not unlike Obama's JayC) who never wavered in allegiance and was behind him to the end thru thick and thin, mostly thick lol.

I don’t have enough history here to really have anything to say but,...

I’m disappointed that TreeWorld went dark. I think of all that collective information that could have been accessed through the years to come, by myself and others - gone. I think we should consider that when it comes to protecting/supporting the longevity of this site and other sources of tree info. in the future.

In addition to recognizing the flavor of some of what has been said here, I first learned how to install and remote retrieve a ring and ring friction saver from one of Eric’s YouTube videos. Man if I just think of the time and risk that has saved me, and the pleasure it has added to work.

LOL, the "door knockers", they were always banging on about that. It does happen like anywhere on the globe, I don't quite know what you can do about someone that really doesn't give a toss except encourage customers to go legit.

Jeff Darby seemed to be OK on the phone, certainly not the alpha male in the relationship though. Eric often give Jeff a rev up online as well but as you say Jeff never faulted from Eric's side. Loyal as any old porch dog.

Merle, I to was disappointed when my membership at TW became untenable. But there's some other great sites/forums out there that operate above the line ethically. Unfortunately the writing was on the wall, when well respected arborists and industry leaders desert like rats on a sinking ship (or made to walk the plank)then its only a matter of time.

Yeah Tony JayD was a nice enough guy...until the battle of the bands with me and Ekka on Asite and then he was a rabbid dog protecting his owner. I took to calling him GayD.

When I first came on TW, JohnD, the 20 ish son of JayD felt challenged by an old salt like me and we conflicted. JayD took it as his son's fault disrespecting a veteran arb and eventually they split up their business which I felt bad about. But all that was split was a beater dump (tipper) truck and an ancient chuck and duck. JayD's, being girth ally challenged, days of climbing and cutting converted to hunting and pecking (on the keyboard) so I didn't feel too guilty... Is girth ally a word?

My recollection was that Jeff worked for local government (council). I always thought that was odd as Eric seemed to have vendetta against most municipalities.

Never met JayD junior, he'd retreat by the time I found TW.

In any organisation the requirement for objective views is paramount. Health conflict is one way of promoting advancement, it also applies scrutiny and assists in balance. Without it you have dictatorship, history shows that eventually these types of regimes implode.

Our personalities are both our strengths and weakness's.

Have a good day guys, its raining here, life goes on rain hail, shine and without TW.

I wish I knew the circumstances, but right now I can't but feel sorry for Eric. Too bad it went down like it did. Good luck.

Its like seeing someone getting charged for a crime, sad to see it happen but pleased to see it happen in order to make things right. No one forced Eric to do it and it appears as if it was done with malice so I guess now he we will have to face the music.

He actually thought that wound wood or occluding tissue formed wall 4, something that appears to have no support in science

It is a shame because he had such a lot to offer if only he could reconcile the fact that he was unlikely to know everything or even get things right. Hopefully, arboriculture has reached a stage once the facts have been agreed upon, having a different opinion is acceptable if not acceptable.

Ekka the Great and almighty falls? Serves him right if he is getting sued, and loses his precious forum site. He is so paranoid about everything it is rediculous.

Amusing that so many mods were banned there. I was a mod for a while there on TW as well. I was also in his 'inner circle'. He wanted me to do stuff that I did not like, so I asked to be un-modded. So he removed me as a mod, and then he removed me from the inner circle. That was fine with me, as I did not care and his inner circle consisted of him mostly trash talking his ex wife and complaining about his nasty divorce. So I remained as a non-mod...

Then one day he got it into his head that I was in league with a woman I knew well on the forum and her engineering husband, and we had banded against him. So he banned us all, along with Terrance, another ex-mod that I know that lives in California. I sent him an email and asked him why he banned me, and he simply replied with, 'spring cleaning'. This mind you, after I had posted a lot on his site, was a mod there, and I have bought and shipped new chainsaws to him down under.

Maybe I should start a forum on Treeworld.us?
