Durability of PI

We are getting some PI in work soon. I'm wondering how durable it is? How often do you guys use a FS with it? How long did your last hank of PI last? Personally I can't wait.

Poison Ivy is not as durable as a typical 16 strand climbing line. The cover strands are not as thick.

I use Blaze which is even thinner than PI, but I have a FS on it probably 95% of the time, so it lasts a looooooong time.

Have fun splicing it!

I've had my pi line for about 9months or so and rarely use a fc. So far its still in great shape and its my primary climbing line. I don't however bomb out of trees or use my friction hitch when a descender will do the job just fine for getting out of the tree. As far as if the rope is worth it I don't think my pi line owes me a thing. 9 months is a long time for a rope to last considering what we arborist put them through. I would say I still have another 3 months of life left in the line.

Good to hear so far. We rotate lines out about every year or sooner if we mess them up. Most of the guys don't use FS so thats good to hear Familytree.

I have gone through 4 PI lines in the last two years. I ALWAYS use a friction saver. To me, the cover seems much more sensitive then say, a Blaze, Tachyon, Fly or Velocity. It seems that if my pole saw looks at the PI wrong, the sheath gets cut.

Get the Tachyon. IMHO

I agree. It gets fuzzy but with PI, that's a GOOD thing. As long as you don't cut it, it will last a long, long time. Hit it with a saw under tension and it's just like any other rope, it cuts.
