Hello All,

I’m a recreational climber. I came across this short and thought it was noteworthy. As a casual observer, I’ve not seen such large sections being dropped from above. I’m interested in your perspectives.

Best,

ZK

Yah, when you have space to go big (and do it safely) you might as well. I also take 60'+ tops fairly regularly. But folks who work in residential settings almost never have space for this kind of thing.

What do you mean we residential guys can’t do that?

That looks like the kind of project we would’ve brought in the crane for.
Yeah I have 0 experience with a crane but watched a few jobs that buddy invited me out on
End of the month helping that same friend with a big job for him and I am really excited
Maybe one day after feeling comfortable and with some experience start adventuring some
I like easier trees but I have to keep my pencil shard and do tough ones once a month or so lol

We do a lot of craning, not as much as some here, but we average about a day a week. And we specialize in the difficulties that nobody else wants to touch. Easy trees are nice now and then, but I like a challenge.

Why does it seem like tree top(on the ground) would have a larger surface area than the aerial cut it came from?
Just an illusion, because the co-dominate leader joint diameter, is much larger than where the cut is?
Sorry for reposting your photo, just curious.
