DQ or extra style points?

Judges discretion Id say.

I actually made a jump like that several years ago in our local comp. I dont think it made any scoring difference good or bad.

Why do you think it may be DQed? It wouldnt be any different than taking a swing would it?

Well, if he missed it he would go into an uncontrolled swing which they seem to not like. Not sure a DQ but points might be taken off if he missed it and got hurt. Looks nice but also looks risky.

I couldn't tell if he pulled slack into his system before taking the leap, but I have seen leaps like that during competitions.

It looks like he had control, but again, it also looked like there was unnecessary slack in his system, so I could see some judges being harsh about that.

This one time, I saw Ben Poteet take a jump at a Southern Chapter TCC masters climb that was spectacular. Don't know how the judges scored it though.

It just looked a little wild.
I personally liked it. I just wondered if it bordered on, out of control. It really wasnt so much the jump or the landing that I found dangerous but the act of getting from a hanging position to being on top of the branch. The rop angle is pretty harsh out there on that tip.

I think that's the most difficult move in tree climbing, when you don't have rope leverage to help you. The wider the limb diameter the more difficult it is.

Called a "mantle" in rockclimbing terms. Usually involves a heel hook, which can be easier facilitated on a tree branch, but tricky when the limb is moving around.

Yup..he had the whole tree elaborately booby trapped. Every time we went for a bell, it seemed to always be just out of reach. Crazy lil' guy.

And the jump, in rockclimbing terms, would be known as a "dyno". As in, "When in doubt, Dyno". As you could tell, there was some doubt during the "mantle", so he decided to "dyno" instead.

That sucks. He is still alive on my phone's contact memory. Should I kill him there, too?
