DownRigger, Rigging Wrench (or Scarab, or....)??

Update after using it a few times...the Scarab is great. Seriously - why isn't this the standard for adding friction to light/medium duty rigging? Yeah...a lot of times (most of the time?), the tree itself can be used for that, but so glad I got this. I've used it alone and with help. With help, he was lowering 12-14" diameter x 3-4' long honey locust chunks with ease. Easier than a porta-wrap. Alone in the tree, super easy to lock it off, make the cut and lower. On one cut I added enough friction to let it run slowly...that's something that could become more useful with practice.

Thanks again for bringing that to the discussion @Jehinten

I will make one post, cos I cannot read much more.

Natural crotch with stubs, in other words, ready made lowering devices, all over the tree.

Here’s an explanation…
the English making fun of proper oral hygiene is the funny part of this video considering the stereotype of English mouths. Brushing your tongue seems common sense or am I missing something?

Im guessing you dont brush your toungue? , i have a dedicated tounge scraper that I find absolutely essential. The idea of not brushing your tounge strikes me as gross! Lol.

I have also rigged plenty of things with stubs. Its not like people just dont know about stubs and natural crotch rigging. Yes it works fine. But id rather not leave tree marks on my ropes and rope marks on my trees if i can help it. I find that the downrigger makes my life and the lives of others around me sooo much easier.

Of all the things I've learned on treebuzz, brushing my tongue might be the most life changing. I've been doing it for a few years maybe after reading a post from you treebing. I've literally only been sick one time since then and that was covid. Absolutely essential

No my tongue does not get scraped. I had no idea it was a thing tbh.

As for the downrigger et al, it’ll find its way from toolbox on the truck, to a shelf in the workshop, where it’ll gather dust till retirement for most.

A solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

If you dont know a problem exists, there is no problem.

Sticks and grass can also be effective at cleaning teeth and they definitly are cheaper and no multi national corporations involved. I DO find it far more interesting that people dont find it necessary to clean their tongues than I am of people using natural crotch rigging. I cant help but wonder watching this video if English are unaware of their reputation as having the worst teeth in the world. That to me is what makes the video funny.

I will also say that i was never happy with the production model of the rigging wrench and the fixed bollard idea was a disaster. I just use a normal wrench and the rig pulley. The Rig' N Wrench' . The notch wrench is nice because you can set it to its rope and you can use a bigger rope in there if you want . The Rig is just the perfect pulley for its beafyness and compactness.

I pretty much left the rig n wrench in the bag when i bought the go fund me Morgan Block from Jaime. What makes it so wonderful is it accomodates little bitty branches to suprisingly big big branches and it is intuitive to use for anyone on the crew. You can still tension a limb so there is no movement easier than yiu can tension a portawrap or trunk based tool.

Downside is it the rope doesnt pull back to you as easy as a pulley but its still better than a stub n' crotch setup in that regard. You cant pull up a branch or influence a branch but there is not much a small man can influence anyway. The rig n wrench wrench really shined when I had a 300 pounder on the crew.

The down rigger is my number one rigging tool in the bag. Then comes out the portawrap, and then comes out a Crane. and then the GRCS and bollard ( for negative rigging) on the pretty rare occassion a crane cant fit or the crane needs help.

The one place i still find my rigging wrench is in my speedline set up. It can tension and release a line with ease. If you set up a rig n wrench for any reason, it is this. Its so perfect in this application.
