He does still post the Treemagineers blog !
http://www.treemagineers.com/blog/signal-to-noise-ratio/

There are very few climbers on earth that could not learn a lot from Mark.

Let's try to improve the quality / content / and civility of our TB forum.

Thanks. - Greg

Case in point! I really appreciate your attitude Greg. You are ever watchful and calmly direct the masses with clear intentions. Thanks for all you do. A sober voice is often needed even when things are only meant in humor and fun - it can get out of hand and somebody gets hurt.

Clearly Mark has had enough exposure to the vitriolic attitudes in this industry.

Let me get this right, because I really don't want to misunderstand what you're saying, Greg.

If I stayed off this board for more than a year, until the large audience present has largely forgotten who I am, then came back after somebody was nasty to a friend of mine on some board out there on the vast internet, and made a single post...

"You people suck, I'm out of here."

And then left, again... I should expect to see widespread sympathy for my cause? The people with inside information on this riddle should guilt-shame anyone who finds the one-liner post a bit bizarre or insulting or even a bit humorous?

I must be missing something. Clearly, he could have simply linked his blog post as a way of explaining his feelings on the subject. Instead, he posts a single line that can easily be interpreted as an overall insult to the rest of us. I'm fine with that, myself, but I can't see how anyone can reasonably expect there not to be responses that are less than sympathetic.

Quitter was my impression
mind you I have given up on all the other forums
in regards to noise
the industry is a fuck show we all actively participate in
Embarrassing to see the least
Lack of leadership just a ship of fools
I don't post much anymore or present my thoughts anymore mostly because disheartened. Love my vocation just ashamed of the industry leadrers/trainers and educators

We all learn from each other hear on the buzz. At least I have. I wish Mark had stuck around and shared his experiences. Instead he left a needless comment that benefited nobody. The buzz is not only a useful tool of vast information, but a close network of friends ..... most of whom I've yet to meet.

I won't Speak for Mark.
He is more than capable of doing that himself.

I will not make excuses for him as it is not needed.

JeffGU, Sympathy is for fools and the unworthy. I know Mark would not expect it. Empathy however is earned and then given at your will, by your terms. I did find the post a bit humorous, but then I know Mark well. Take it for what it is, words on page, an undefined thought. Perhaps the true irony is that this simple post has aroused many of you unlike a longer one would have! As type I realize there is the source of my humor with this all.

For those of us that know him, Yes, his one line post was out of character. What it shows me is the deep level of frustration and anger he feels. Is Mark being oversensitive? Perhaps, but who am I to say, who is anybody to say or in fact give a damn if Mark or anyone choose to flip us off and move on?

Greg's advice is sound. If you have something worthwhile to say, then say it. Back it up with thought/knowledge and considered judgment. Look to add to any discussion. Aim for more than just filling the screen with text. Make every word count, because they do well reasoned or not.

Tony

He may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Having had other sites delete my post or ban me altogether (not tree related), I find this site to be well worth tuning into. The "real" world has its share of static as well.

This whole thread is stupid. I'm stupid too for replying to it. Mark is done here? Mark has never even been here long enough to make a contribution to the treebuzz community. Hates Drama? This whole post is posted to cause Drama. Where are the legends at.... is my question? The members who started this forum, who contributed daily to answering questions....those are the ones who silently bowed out and the ones I miss. Not this "legend in his own mind" Mark B.

Yeah seriously...oh good he was part of the "original" treemagineers...awesome...he did well...for them. Never chimed in much here to help people...sorry for our loss? Done here.

I haven't read the TCI article about aerial friction devices

When I found the BMS Belay Spool many years ago I wrote about it here on TreeBuzz.com. Actually I raved about it because ni found great value. There were some people who couldn't see the value. Others had open minds. I can't recall any real negative or nasty backfeed Though

I can't recall any of the negative talk about
The article on TreeBuzz.com either. But I might have missed it

Signal to noise ratio is part of Internet discussion. Anyone who has been on for long moves around fromnforum tonforum until they either finds a nestntonroost in or they fly the coop completely.

Personally I unsubscribed to many tree climbing related forums on Facebook because there was so little content. Too much...yeah...ditto...cool etc posting. When I left I didn't sign out with an exit post. Who cares if I participate/lurk?

From the very beginning of Mark Chisholm and my talks about what we wanted for TreeBuzz.com there has been a real hesitancy to edit or heavily monitor what is said here. Sure...there are knuckleheads that create a stir. The mods let them run for a little while before they get their leashes jerked. We don't host a totalitarian oppressive forum. But we do have an itlron fist inside our velvet gloves

Tom runs this forum like a well oiled machine. Speaking of well oiled machines... I once posted this picture of a well oiled machine in a practical-use setting, and it got deleted. I'm being oppressed. My rights to artistic expression are being trampled upon like last night's peanut shells. I painted little Hitler mustaches on all my pictures of Tom Dunlap. He's a mean bastard. But he can hit that DELETE key so fast, he must have awesome reflexes.

@Tom Dunlap I think it's this thread from earlier in the summer.

I'm sorry if I/we ran off someone you value. The moderators/admins here must see a lot of turnover throughout the years, which I imagine could wear on you if you're seeing the same guys at yearly conferences or just recalling good threads.

...also kind of agree with the sentiment that he wasn't actively contributing here...

I read his blog post at the treemagineers website. If I wanted to (and I'm ambivalent, so this is rhetorical), would I contact him directly about it, or post here with his username handle? It seems like his exit is partly resulting from the nature of having an open forum (I mean, where else would @JeffGu post, and this is all about him). The Buzz can only function if the buzzers speak up, have decently tough skin, and are also nice to each other when it's warranted.
