* do you work off a static line? *

Bogger,

I'm suspicious of links from companies that don't put their name on them. A bit sketchy.

GEt a copy of TCIA's SRT Best Practices Manual. YOu'll be on your way to understanding more about SRT.

One problem with advancing your PSP by swinging the lead is that your base anchor can flop down and not choke itself properly.

YoYo Man has a vid showing how he uses some bungie cord to hold up his base tie.

First of all welcome to tree buzz... It's great that you want to safely go where few people get the opportunity to, high amongst the tree. As professional tree climbers we have to work within the guide line of the American National Standards Institution (ANSI). The ANSI Z 133 is the specific set of written standards that states all connecting hardware must be triple auto locking with a rated breaking strength of 5000 lbs.

TimberJack,
Are Screwlock biners and Quicklinks out of compliance? I use them for rock climbing and recreational tree climbing but am just curious about the ANSI compliance. Thanks

Well I sure do hate to sound like an advocate for bad practice. For rec climbing and rock climbing I'm sure those screw lock bikers and quick links are fine. If you were to show up to work with that equipment you would not be allowed to climb at my work, because they do not complied with the ANSI standards.
