DMM throw hook.

Well have you all played with the hook enough to make a decision on best package deal?

1. Buy as kit and add cinch
2. Buy as kit and add prusik/pulley
3. Buy separate, use climb line, add friction device

You know at some point I will break down and get one.

The kit is so well thought out it's worth it if you can afford it. Otherwise I have 15 meters of 10mm Sterling Super Static I can send you with an eye on it, I owe you one ;-) whatever you decide I think it makes sense to have a sewn or spliced line on whatever line you use. I think a knotted attachment will increase the chance of hanging it up.

I'll let you know how a hitch/HC goes - it should go fine as expected. In the garage, it's all good with 8mm armor-prus poly. I'll try 6mm ocean if need be.

I should be climbing today, but there's a good storm happening and it's windy and hosing it down. Looks like I'll be delayed....it hurts so much having new kit and not climbing with it yet.

Anyway, it's rubbish outside and I have a new hook I can't use yet. I'm repeating my words and feeling sorry for myself. This sucks. I'm going to go find something usefully to do. Think I'll check out the buzz for a bit while I have a coffee and think about it. Bloody rain.

Is the DMM hook something you carry with you all the time? I currently use a folding grapple but it's to bulky to just have on the saddle full time, so I just take it when I need to traverse. problem is sometimes when I need it it's in the truck. I always carry a 32' 10mm multi purpose lanyard in a store bag on my saddle, so I guess that parts covered.View attachment 37309

Because I have don't have the kit - the hook alone will live on my saddle. I can't see it adding enough weight to be a problem, nor do I think it will get in the way any more than anything else I have hanging back there. I will always want it on me for the option in the tree.

For me; I would still buy the hook alone, rather than the kit.

Trango came in today. Hopefully I can give a report on Tuesday afternoon.

I know that moss has already confirmed for me that the Trango does not work on his 11.5mm Tachyon. His information is spot on, so I absolutely trust it. However, different rope constructions can sometimes work differently with devices. I understand you have some Cougar Orange? - Could you run it through the Trango? - I'd value your opinion.

I bought the kit but I'll try some cougar for you.

You guys suck. It is snowing a foot a min or so it seems and I am stuck inside to read about this piece of kit I didn't think I needed when I started reading but now that I am at the end of this thread I am convinced I need it. Not want mind you NEED IT. Great there goes another $100+

;) Yup! :coffe:Coffee from the pantry and a plunger (think in the USA that's a french press).

No facy latte-capo-trim-soy-double-shot-mocha-la-la-las! Bank says no.

Here's how I enjoy fancy coffee on a budget ;-) Caution, good coffee may impede judgment shopping online for gear, a vicious cycle.

@moss Very nice setup. I can see you like expresso based coffee. What's the pot on the left burner? For milk?

Coffee really is an essential. Around here a purchased coffee is about $4.50 for an expresso based coffee. It's rare to have filter coffee from a shop here like you would in America or Canada. No coffee and donut shops like Dunkins or Tims or the like. And that price is for a small, which is about half the size of a small in the States. But, the coffee here is amazingly good!

I should have explained how expensive coffee was here when I said I was cutting back. Probably makes more sense to you guys now. Everyday I'm making my own.

I can't figure out how to work the hook into this response. Yeah, I use a moka pot, buy some decent quality whole bean, grind it, brew it and cut it with hot milk. It saves me significant money vs. buying in a fancy coffee shop
